Possible paypal ripoff help!

Hi

Think I might have been stung by some fella and I payed him outside of ebay and via paypal.
I have filed a case with paypal but I am thinking that if this is a con artist I might not get anything back from paypal and therefore I was wondering if I could contact my credit card company and get them to refund me the cash?
Is this possible and if so is there a procedure to follow ? Like I say I have informed paypal of a possible problem but maybe I should get the credit card company involved?

Any tips would be welcome , I hear it is wise to close your paypal account on asking for credit card intervention because Paypal will just take it back off you , is this correct ?

Thanks

Re: Possible paypal ripoff help!

I informed Paypal of my concern and I am hoping and praying that when I check my emails in the morning the guy I payed will have replied to me and put my mind at rest.
I think that I will contact my credit card company and inform them because if the seller does come good I can always cancel the complaint.

Can you clarify that? Lots of companies now let you buy with PayPal, as do private individuals. Was Ebay involved at all?

Re: Possible paypal ripoff help!

Looks like the seller in this deal was talking bull and in the week since I ordered the item from him he has failed to deliver the goods after promising they would arrive three times.
I have talked to paypal today and they inform me that the money I payed him is on hold and has not been payed to him due to me raising the dispute claim. Is this correct and if so I take it he cannot get his grubby hands on the cash and it will eventually be refunded to my credit card ?
The seller has until Wednesday 7th March to respond to the paypal dispute and I very much doubt he will do this.

Thanks

If you don't mind me asking what was the item? Just so we can all steer clear!

A Nintendo wii was the item.
The seller updated the paypal dispute tonight with a tracking number so only time will tell if I am completely wrong about this guy. I will wait for the postman tomorrow and take it from there, the deal was for special delivery so by rights the wii whould arrive in the morning. I will call the royal mail if the parcel does not arrive to verify that the tracking number is genuine.

can't you just enter the tracking number on the Royal mail website ?

You can only track a delivered item with the royal mail and not when the parcel is supposed to be on its way.
Parcel did not turn up today so if it does not arrive tomorrow I will presume it is not going to come

Re: Possible paypal ripoff help!

Although it is weird, I must admit that from a sellers perspective I would not send out the item if someone raised a dispute against me...But then again I would just say that and not provide 'false' tracking numbers....You may not be (Have to trust your word ), but there are lots of dodgy buyers out there. The fact that Paypal was able to 'hold' the money meant he had it sitting in his account...If he was seriously dodgy he wouldn't do that unless he was stupid too

Re: Possible paypal ripoff help!

Should'nt the seller be using something a little bit more substantial than Royal Mail to post a Wii?

Royal mail may not be able to track but you should be able to see what date it was collected, that way you could tell if he was being honest when he kept saying it had been posted...

I sold my second Wii the week before Christmas and posted via Royal Mail. The special delivery was £18 for guaranteed next day delivery and insurance upped to £500.....

Re: Possible paypal ripoff help!

Well my feedback on here and approx 129 feedbacks on ebay (all positive) kind of puts me in the clear on the possibility of me being the dodgy person in this deal.
The seller still does not answer any emails I have sent and will not answer his mobile when I call so if he was doing everything legit then he should be making every possible effort to keep me informed on this parcel.
I agreed to pay for Royal mail special delivery so insurance wise it was a good enough service to use.
I await the post tomorrow but to be honest I am fearing the worst due to a total lack of communication since Friday last week.

Re: Possible paypal ripoff help!

Personally I never use a service I can’t fully track (I also never use citylink but that’s another story) and I don’t give people who stall and fail to communicate the benefit of doubt. If they are going to waste my time sod it I will buy the product from somebody else.
