Central Heating Advice Please

Hi

Me and the other half moved 3 weeks ago into a converted stable, its garages and store rooms downstairs and a large 2 bedroom flat upstairs.

The heating system is oil fired combi boiler which is situated downstairs in a large unused workroom, its on a outside wall and all the heating pipes etc run to the upstairs, it all works very well apart from 1 thing, it has a frost thermostat near the boiler, but because the stat is in a unused, unheated room where it doesn't get any sun the heating system is being overriden by the frost stat, I understand the need for these but at the moment the weather isn't bad(and there well insulated pipes), is there any way to stop the frost stat from kicking in without the need to remove it? I was thinking of insulating the stat until (if) the weather gets bad and there's a chance of the pipes frezzing.

Cheers for any advice given.

Regards
JO

I don't know if you've noticed but it has been below freezing at night recently so I'd imagine this stat is working as it should. At the end of the day its prime function is to protect the boiler and associated pipework which are also in this unused, unheated room of yours so I wouldn't have thought it a good idea to remove it.

Is it not adjustable as to what temperature it kicks the boiler in ?
I know some are, if yours is not then maybe getting it replaced with the adjustable type would be the answer.

If its adjustable then you could try setting it to a higher value, I think 5 degrees is the max it should go.

the three degree's is the temp that the boiler kicks in at to keep it from becoming frosted so if it's more than three degrees it's not on unless the timer is but if it is below three degrees it kicks in

That makes sense.
Maybe you could try some moderate insulation as you suggest yourself but keep a close watch on it and compare with a separate thermometer as to when it kicks in then to make sure you are not going too low and putting the system at risk.
Of course it could simply be that the current one is faulty and a replacement would sort the problem.
Good luck.
