The Stormy Weather

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6272193.stm

Wow it is bad. I decided to go down town for my lunch on the way back I saw a fire engine. Being nosey me and a friend went up to see what has happened.

To our supprise a massive part of the new massive 3 story U shape block of flates roof had been ripped off. It was still attached to the building but had come of from behind and flapped over the front and it touched the floor.

Part of the roof hit a van and the guy moved his van 5 mins later a tree (not massive ) fell on it.

Getting back to work another tree has fallen down.

But wow the roof thing is amazing. I have 4 pictures but I am at work.

The houses are around £200,000 (flats what ever) and its amazed me that the roof has been messed up. I can upload the pictures when I get home or if some one really wants to upload them and post links I can MMS them but it will loose quality (3.2 mega pixle camera )

I drove back from Norfolk earlier today. Horrendous weather, all the way to Berkshire. Oddly the wind is even stronger here than in the fens.

Had to take evasive action twice to avoid falling branches, ABS is the best invention on the planet

Would he not just blame God for that, as insurance companies do?

I have a fence blown down. Spoke to the fence-fixing man to get him round and he seemed remarkably upbeat about the current weather

One tile gone. Two fence panels down. Garage door knackered.

Insurance call when it dies down....

Hi Myles, Newbury is terrible. Came home from the office at 2pm and there was a tree being cut up, that has fallen down along the Thatcham bypass. It wasn't small either.

Re: The Stormy Weather

The last time I tried to claim for fence panels they weren't covered by the insurance as they are not part of the house
The people over the back from me have a crappy corrugated plastic lean-to along the side of their house...... or rather they used to have one, the roof is peeling off bit by bit and blowing all over the place. I wonder if the insuarance will cover it if it hits my car ?

Should do, might be better to pre-empt it by moving your car for a bit though.

More tiles raised on our house now....

I was due to go back to work in Farnham, Dom, luckily radio2 said avoid the M3.

Came home instead only to find the estate littered with garden fences and wheely bins

Haven't a clue, we'll see what he says. Spent 18 yrs of my life in a really old victorian house, went through worse weather than this, never once did a roof tile fall off.

Typical, the quality of new houses these days!

Re: The Stormy Weather

My tv aerial is hanging from the roof by the co-ax cable. I thought reception was poor this morning, but it was too dark to see outside. Can't get anything on digital at all.
Also the aluminium elements of the aerial are all bent and buckled and I know that if I try to straighten them, they will snap off.

Re: The Stormy Weather

2 people killed in Manchester today, major city centre roads are closed and the city centre is grid-locked. I left at about 1/4 to 4 and the traffic was heavy. Saw at least 10 trees blown over on the way home, including a massive oak which was right across a road near my house. All the ridge tiles on one corner of my roof have blown off and have landed mainly in next door's garden, the top of their drive, and two have landed on a metal pent shed which is at the side of our house on the decking - the roof is completely caved in. Luckily the bloke who lives opposite has his own roofing company. I have never seen wind like it - it was quite scary.

Very bad over in Netherlands at the moment, most trains and trams cancelled, and mile long tailbacks on the motorway. Two reported dead so far.

Re: The Stormy Weather

Car is still safely on the drive but much of the fencing is down. Curiously there are five fence panels down in the party fence that my neighbour has to pay for and none on the side that I pay for.

Wife managed to find her way home otherwise it would have been take-away time
