Bin Cleaning - What A Rip Off !!!

These people who come round, spray a bit of water in your wheelie bin and take 1.50 off you.... talk about money for old rope. Who needs the interior of their wheelie bin to be nice and clean? not me !

They must be making a fortune. Next thing you know we'll buying water in overpriced bottles ......

When your main bin is only emptied every two weeks, having it cleaned once a month during the height of the summer is a godsend.

Re: Bin Cleaning - What A Rip Off !!!

This morning, here in Worksop, Nottinghashire, we have had some extemely high winds. Where I live five recycling bins have blown over, their contents blown all over the place and the it now looks like a landfill site!

Why don't wheely bins have a simple catch to hold the lid closed?

Re: Bin Cleaning - What A Rip Off !!!

At least you guys have wheelie bins!!

We had to buy our own dustbin (not even a wheelie bin, just a metal can), and the binmen won't even take the rubbish unless you've already removed the black bin liner from the bin and placed it outside your house!

Re: Bin Cleaning - What A Rip Off !!!

If mine starts to smell bad I just stick a bucket of hot water with a load of bleach in it. Job done. If people are going to go through my bin trying to steal my identity I want it to be unpleasent for them.

Re: Bin Cleaning - What A Rip Off !!!

We don't seem to have a problem with our wheelie bin - all our rubbish is in tied up bags straight from swing bin in kitchen - but if people are prepared to pay for their bins to be cleaned then it's a good little earner for someone

Re: Bin Cleaning - What A Rip Off !!!

Get more bang for your buck.

Before the bincleaner arrives make use of said bin as a toilet for a few hours. Invite your neighbours and passign strangers to do similar.

Hey presto sit back and watch the fun when the bincleaner gets to your reeky wheeled monster.

Alternatively lie in wait in the bin and surprise the bincleaner as they are about their business . To get the full benefit of this do this all the time brushing off any protestations from the bincleaner with chirpy rejoiner " same time next week luv".

Eeee Ba Gum, You dont know when you are well off, when I were a lad I had to wash the rubbish by hand in hydrochloric acid and then take it to the dustcart. If the dustman werent satisfied I cleaned it well, he'd rip me head off and kick it down the road.

*** do you get part of thier wages? you basically have to empty your own bins? do they moan if its over 10kg and make you lift it into the truck yourself? F me what is the world coming to?

Everyone knows that its actually hard to be a binman, you have to know one already to stand a chance of getting a job as one. They get paid way more than they deserve imo... And the cheek of making you do part of thier job for them!!!

1) Bin men perform a vital job in society
2) We dunno if mjn's council have decided that. If not, I'd complain. All binmen in the country empty the bins themselves. Its a given all residents do is put it on the street and make sure the outside isn't taking the proverbial

A lot of the binmen Ive seen are lazy, unhelpful and will only do the bare minimum. Not unlike myself.

Also, the council charge the shop I work in 15 pounds a month for the bin, and now they are saying they will no longer empty it ! . What the devil are we supposed to do with a large metal bin of rubbish, with no vehicle and no nearby tip. Ridiculous.

Re: Bin Cleaning - What A Rip Off !!!

I notice a trend with southern and midland councils

Move to Manchester!* Fantastic city and they don't fuss too much over bins or recycling criteria

*Impractical and impossible I know. Just go along

My brothers been a binman for over 20 years, gets good money, great tips at holiday times, and i moan at him no end. No wheelies here, you take your black bags to the edge of your property or they stay where they are.

I would not want his job, and i know for a fact he gets more than £18k

Re: Bin Cleaning - What A Rip Off !!!

i know they get more than 18k too! its nearer 28 than 18. In london anyway. All this talk about school leavers with no qualifications is silly. You cant just apply to be a binman and expect to get the job trust me! there is waiting lists for that job in london!! you would need to know someone to stand a chance of getting in!!
Vital role indeed but for the money they get dont you think they should be working a bit harder instead of constantly cutting back on thier work load? ie, fortnightly pickups and not opening bin lids by themselves!

Because the bin men would have another job to do.
I remember when they used to collect a steel bin from behind the house, empty it, then return it to where they found it. Now they have to pull one a few feet, hook it on to the vehicle and press a button. The bin doesn't even get put back on the drive or pavement, it's just left in the road.
Getting them to open a catch could cost us a fortune on our council tax bills.

It won't be long before the van arrives and parks up for 10 minutes whilst everyone has to rush out and empty their own bins. Of course it will still take four men to sit in the cab for health and safety reasons.

As for bin cleaning. It's just not environmentally friendly to have people drive around cleaning bins that are going to have rubbish thrown in them again.

They must be making a fortune. Next thing you know we'll buying water in overpriced bottles ......
