Treadmill advice

I am looking at buying a motorised treadmill at the moment. I have about £200 to spend & i am not bothered about 2nd hand so that opens more doors. The problem is there are lots at around £250 which if i had to i would pay but ther are so many. What do i look out for?

Seriously though, the wider the deck the better and a top speed of at least 7 or 8mph.

Re: Treadmill advice

To be honest with you mate that guy is almost right. I really dont see the need for teadmills, I honestly think you will be wasting your money. If you live anywhere near a park especially. Get out and run on the road, you will save your money and many people believe that treadmills cause a lot of knee problems due to the impact.
Hope this may have helped, slightly.

Not to mention that the motor in the treadmill does most of the work anyway, you'll get much better results from proper jogging or cycling and it's much more interesting than staring at a wall.

Re: Treadmill advice

absolutely right guys!!!! i did that bought a treadmill and a crosstrainer to use in the garage and i used it once! very boring.

i find the gym a lot better as i couldnt seem to get the motivation at home as i knew it was there but if you make the effort to get up and out to the gym you might as well use it once your there,£4.70 well spent i say.

if you must buy gym gear for home i would recommend a cross trainer over a treadmill any day of the week, just make sure you put it in front of a tv or in your garage in front of a kylie poster and wear a walkman or ipod

For that kind of money, they won't tend to go any faster than a brisk walk either.

Re: Treadmill advice

I bought one a few years back...and found that anything below £700 wasn't worth having........as it turned it wasn't worth having anyway as it is soooooooo boring I just couldn't use, as has been said much better to get outside and jog / run if you can...or joion gym where you can vary exercise.

Re: Treadmill advice

I think that if you don't enjoy a form of exercise you'll never keep it up.

That's why I don't bother doing any.

Re: Treadmill advice

I believe cheap exercise bikes are a waste of time - I much prefer an Elliptical Trainer - something like this; http://www.connection-fitness.co.uk/...349/index.aspx

Get it set up in the garage with a nice 26" LCD on the wall and you're off

Same here - binned it in the end ! I think you have to go fast and 'whip' it round rather than skip, I didn't have the strength or energy to do it

Re: Treadmill advice

In the gym i use three cardio machines, bike, stair climber, and elliptical x trainer. The elliptical is the one that i gain the most benefit from, as it is the easiest to get a sweat and heart rate up on.
, and with the benefit of working the majority of the body's muscles groups.

But more importantly i get a better view of the girls' performing in front of me on the bikes and running machines!

thats the main reason to go to the gym. you don't get that working out at home unless you have the playboy channel

the girls at gym can be very motivational, i find i work out harder if there are hot girls there, and i work out poorly if there are fat girls there. why do fat girls have to work out? can't they just eat chips instead?

Re: Treadmill advice

Yep, treadmills are pretty pointless, you'd be better off buying a rowing machine, or a pair of decent trainers.

Re: Treadmill advice

I've always liked the proper stepper at the gym, its like going the wrong way up an escalator rather than pushing pedals up and down, and is the hardest work out on a machine that I have done. I don't expect they are cheap mind.

I must be more advanced than you. I can achieve that just by walking up the stairs - no need for fancy equipment

There is an obvious market for viewing galleries that gyms don't seem to have exploited yet. Sloppy marketing if you ask me.

They probably do that on the way home from the gym. I used to work with someone who regularly played squash to lose weight, and then drank around 15 pints of lager in the bar afterwards.
