Scaremongering or reality?

My employer, a large global reputable company has taken the unusual step of setting up an internal website and issuing printed literature to every employee on the threat of a flu pandemic giving advice on what to do if and when a pandemic occurs.

As anyone elses employer done this?
Is it scaremongering or are they just taking sensible precautions?
Or maybe they know something joe public doesn't know?

If you are vulnerable i.e old, or have a health problem get a flu jab. If and when the pandemic occurs, stay at home, avoid unnecessary contact with other people, personal hygiene, stock up with bottled water, tinned and frozen food etc etc.

Re: Scaremongering or reality?

I saw a bird flu the other day, right past the window....

But seriously, I am an employer and I have warned my staff to be ready.

I don't know how we'd manage without Health and Safety people sometimes.

Is it me, or does that also read as: avoid unnecessary personal hygiene

Great! So your company has instructed you to stay at home if the pandemic occurs, regardless if you catch it or not. You should enquire if they are going to pay you should the situation arise.
Pin them down now before the event.....I bet they won't want to pay you for following there very sensible advice. ..

Well my first thought would be do you work for a major pharmaceutical company? If you do then I would be concerned otherwise not bothered at all.

Go on say you work for Pfizer before you know it our inboxes will be choka and everyone will be stocking up on canned goods.

No need for the "except" in that sentence as JD is a bourbon not a whisky . I 'd rather drink gasoline than JD but each to their own I guess .

We were offered free Flu shots as we are every year, something which I took them up on and thus far I seem to be OK .

It does say Tennessee Whiskey on the label, but I'm no expert on these matters. I only like it with Coke though, which is probably heresy in some circles.

Never tried gasoline

It is best to treat American product information with some circumspection. After all, this is a nation that describes the Corvette as a "Sports Car" and the drivel that eminates from the Fox Network as "news."

If you like JD- it might be worth trying Knob Creek which is rather good .

Yes, I see your point.

I usually avoid clicking on anything that contains the word 'knob' but I did make an exception as you seem so trustworthy. That one is called whiskey too!

Re: Scaremongering or reality?

Personally I shall be finishing off my bottle Jameson's Redbreast if I go down with the lergy. Two reasons.
1: Anything that tastes that good must be good for you.
2: I'm certainly not leaving something that good behind should I not pull through!
