Anyone know how to blend colours with spray paint?

I'm gonna custom paint my current PC case and what I really want to go for is black that fades to blue at the top. I've searched for about an hour online and the only info I've found is to turn the can sideways.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Andrew

Is that even possible? You might have to use some sort of clear overlay.

why not go to your local sign company and get them to print you some vinyl.
Then just "wrap" your PC, nice and easy to remove when you get fed up with it to

Very fine wet and dry paper and many many hours of patient, careful sanding to slowly remove the top layer and blend it in to the bottom.

Like signs says, much easier to go for the vinyl from a sign place unless you have the patience of a saint.

I think I'll experiment with the black on the beige case and if the results are in any way acceptable. I'll try to do the same with blue on the black. Where can I get cheap gloss spray paint online?

try using water based acrylics like you get for painting model miniatures (Games Workshop, Battletech etc type stuff)......you basically fade by drybrushing it.....will still take a little while to do, but you'll get a really cool effect out of it.....

best bit is they dry really quick too....and its not difficult to paint over it if you get it wrong

Re: Anyone know how to blend colours with spray paint?

Showing my geeky side here - drybrushing wouldn't give a good blend on something as large as a PC case (and requires that your case has some sort of grain to tooth the drybrushing onto).

What I would suggest is paint your blue on first (down to about half way) and then spray the black on in layers, thinning the layers as you get higher up. Practice on a piece of card or something first, so you get the feel of how the paint goes on.

As to where to buy cans of paint - try somewhere like Halfords or B&Q

Shaz

(Yes - geeky enough to paint toy soldiers)

Re: Anyone know how to blend colours with spray paint?

Use an independant double action spraygun or large capacity airbrush. Sand it primer it sand it again , light spray of primer,. Then you can eirther paint it blue and then grad some black on top or ( and this is how I'd do it) paint it white , then grad the white with blue then grad the result with a really dark blue.

Suggest you use cellulose based paint and you'll have to spray a couple of top layers of laquer on top to stop the paint from powdering off (you always have to seal sprayed paint).

If you have no experience with a spraygun I'd recommend you take the case to a car body shop and pay them to do it, they'll probably oblige and make a far better job of it.

Re: Anyone know how to blend colours with spray paint?

Why not use some flip paint that used to be big on cars a while back?

Thanks everyone for the ideas.

Flip paint isn't really the look I'm going for, but still, good idea.
