Problems with house phone.....

Not really sure what section to put this in but you seem like a knowledgeable crowd so here goes.

Recently my house phone has been giving me some problems - people trying to phone me get a message saying the phone is in use (it diverts to 1571). We also have no dial tone when calling out so basically we can't make or receive calls. Nothing has been changed recently as far as im aware and my internet connection is working fine.

We've tried connecting the phone to different sockets in the house but no luck. There are filters on all connections etc and I've run out of ideas of what could be wrong.

Any help will be greatly appreciated as im tearing my hair out here

Unplug all sockets incl, internet and remove all filters. Connect the main phone upto the BT master socket and see if you get a signal. Then start to reconnect one-by-one, keep checking as you go. If no dial tone at all then contact BT.

Just make sure it's not a fault with non BT installed cabling or sockets before you call or they will be charge you for the call-out
