Urgent help please - Paypal scam

Just got my PC set back up and checking all is ok

Got email from paypal saying that they belive my account may have been accessed by a third party - log into paypal (by manually typing in the address etc and login) and find that today - the 12th December - the following

Payment To Xoom 12 Dec. 2006 Completed Details -$374.00 USD

Clicking on details gives me Item Title:

Money Transfer to Phan Quoc Thinh, VN

Further on It does then say

12 Dec. 2006 Add Funds from a Bank Account Failed Details £195.83 GBP

Whats going on and how has this happened ?
What do I do now ?

My paypal account does say its in the red for 191.83 so it does look like its not gone out of my bank - but what are my next steps

Please help - only just moved into my house and now very worried here

Thanks

PC set back up.....

where has it been, with whom, why and for how long ? I take it its absence covers the transaction date...

or is it just a re-install....

I shouldnt imagine you having too much trouble getting any missing money (if any) back saying as it was PayPal themselves who informed you.

You could contact your bank/CC company and block/cancel the transaction.

Re: Urgent help please - Paypal scam

Things get worse

just got this

Quote:
We're sorry, but your account access limitation cannot be lifted at this
time. We need more information about your account before we can restore
full access to your account. Please complete the steps below so that we may
review your account further:

1. - Fax a copy of a current utility bill. The bill must show your name and
address exactly as they appear in your PayPal account.

If you are faxing information, you must use the cover page provided by
PayPal. The cover page contains information specific to you and using it
ensures that your documents are directed and handled promptly. To print the
cover page, log in to your account and click on the Fax Documents link on
the 'Limited Account Access Details' page.

Yours sincerely,
Eliana
PayPal Account Review Department
Now I know this sounds daft but I dont have one - the address on the account is where I lived for 30 years with parents and as such have got no utility bill - also as mad as this may sound I have not got access to a fax machine

I really am most confused and rather worried

I phoned them but they where no help - I do not wish to appear rude but I can not understand what they are saying

Re: Urgent help please - Paypal scam

You have to play ball I'm afraid. Get a bank statement, and get somebody who has a fax machien to send it ASAP. Without this, they can't do anything. You need to prove you are who you are.

Re: Urgent help please - Paypal scam

There are many Mail to Fax services you can use online. Microsoft Word allows you to send faxes directly from your desktop via a modem connection.

Just a tip - hope you get this sorted out.

Have you got a mobile on a monthly contract? In my experience that'll do.

Re: Urgent help please - Paypal scam

56k modem is best and easiest for faxing, using BB is a bit of a pain.

Yeah - it seems to be

It links up with my paypal account info and also confirmed by phone call

Not clicked on any links in the emails - in fact none of them seem to have links - and only accessed paypal via www.paypal.co.uk

I think I worked out what has caused problem - have used paypal for 2 years (maybe more) ordered 100s of things off ebay using it on my PC

Monday I used my other halfs laptop to order something and paid via paypal - then less than 24 hours later this happened - guess her laptop is "dirty"

I will have to use my works fax machine when back friday - no way of scanning on my pc
