Problem viewing video(media) clips on pc

Hopefully someone can help me sort a problem I have when playing media clips on my pc. Basically whenever I play a file using windows media player, no matter if it is streaming, from a site i.e. watching movie trailers from sites such as imdb, or viewing clips already on my pc, avi files etc.

Basically I receive a black screen, which displays either red or blue or green distored movement, as if its the movie.

It still buffers and outputs sound no problem and appears to be the same when using realplayer, nero player and I've just dowloaded divx player and it’s the same aswell?

I've checked to see if the kids had changed any settings with the g/card but they appear to be fine, can’t be sure mind. I have no problems playing clips from youtube etc.

Any advice welcome, is it codecs or something?

Re: Problem viewing video(media) clips on pc

Maybe you're missing a plugin somewhere. Although you suggest all was fine before so I dunno...

Too many video players. The only ones you need are 'VLC' and 'Media Player Classic with Real Alternative + Quicktime Alternative' installed

VLC and MPC with the codec pack I linked will play everything under the sun. If you don't have an iPod, I use Real+quicktime alternative because Apple and Real Media really do not need to be connected to the net everytime their proprietary software is running.

This is the setup I have and I have yet to encounter a source that won't play

Re: Problem viewing video(media) clips on pc

Thanks mate, I've installed VLC and it appears to have sorted the problem. I don't have to use it either as the files that didnt previously play using windows media player now work, must have been codecs or someting.

Cheers again

Re: Problem viewing video(media) clips on pc

Ok I've let this lie a while however I am still experiencing problems playing media clips on any media player i.e. VLC, Windows media player, realplayer, quicktime etc

It appeared to fix temporarily when I installed K-Lite Codec Pack however it is now doing the same distorted images, best way to describe is a completely black screen with bursts of red or blue colours.

I’ve uninstalled all players and reinstalled each one but nothing seems to resolve this, can anyone please give me some advice, surely this is an easy fix.

Please note, sites such as yourtube stream fine.

Have you by any chance got a Samsung phone? (If yes, and have uploaded the software "Samsung PC Studio" the cause of the problem is likely to be that. The only cure is to uninstall the Samsung software and keep your fingers crossed!

Ok we're getting somewhere, I am able to view avi files on my pc however they are darker than they used to be and unwatchable at times.

Anyone any idea how to resolve this?

Thanks for the advice bitofatit.
