Mango Book Club - Clever Scam

Hey all!

I got woken up at the crack of dawn on saturday by somone delivering a parcel. On opening it I discovered some trash book and demand from Mango for 99p to pay for it. I'd never heard of the jokers and had never requested the book or to join their silly club.

I have no idea how they got my details, but reading the demand letter a bit more carefully on payment I would be agreeing to 12 months of random books and a good fleecing. As the 99p is more then it would cost to send the thing back and most people are nice enough to try and do the decent thing I thought I'd warn everyone don't be nice to these people it will cost you!

DJ

p.s. I'm going to send them a letter saying it was unsolicated and the demand for payment was illegal, that their trash is waiting for them to pick it up, and then I'm raising a complaint with the Trading Standards Authority. As clever a ruse as I think it is taking advantage of peoples good natures is disgusting ...

Re: Mango Book Club - Clever Scam

going through a similar thing with Grolier. signed up for some disney books, for 3 months which is fine, only we cancelled it and they still wont leave us alone keep sending us more books. They give you 7 days to send back so u pay nothing, only thats 7 days from when they sent it thus it gets to you on day 4 and its a hit or miss thing to get it back in time as the prepaid label is 2nd class. VERY sneaky! we are currently trying to get totally free of this but we fear our details are on their system for eternity . avoid like the plague.

According to this site if it was sent to you unsolicated then you can keep it as a gift, any requests for payment is illegal and it recommends that you report the offender to trading standards.

My missus is a complete glutton for these scams! REALLY winds me up! So much so that I have taken away her telephone priveledges, shopping priveledges and door answering to strangers (and members of her family) priveledges!

Presumably you still allow her to cook, iron, clean etc.?

Is she still allowed to speak? Is she allowed to have opinions?
