Replacing MR16 Halogen Lights with MR16 LED Bulbs - HELP

I need some advice. In my flat I have quite a few Halogen light bulbs and want to replace them with LED equivilent as these burn hardly any energy.

Has anybody done this in their house/flat? are they any good? do I need a special type of transformer to run them as I have heard you have?

Any help would be great guys

Re: Replacing MR16 Halogen Lights with MR16 LED Bulbs - HELP

I've always found LED's to be bright to look at but they don't actually give off much light. Or at least not the ambient type of light needed for that type of application. But I've never tried so i don't have any practical advice to offer!

Re: Replacing MR16 Halogen Lights with MR16 LED Bulbs - HELP

I only want to light up the hallway with them and require 3. On a morning these are on quite bit so was trying to think of ways of saving on the electricity bill and LED bulbs burn hardly anything compared to halogen bulbs.

Re: Replacing MR16 Halogen Lights with MR16 LED Bulbs - HELP

I did exactly this and was very pleased with the result. I would estimate they are half as bright which for me was a benefit as the halogens were far too bright. They give a nice welcoming light in the hall, especially if coming in from the dark, and you're not blinded by them as I was by the halogens (unless you stand right under them and look straight into them). They are mounted 9 feet off the ground and provide light that would be comfortable to read under if you are in their lighting cone. However for uniform lighting you would need one per square meter mounted at that height. I have a 10 foot hall a meter wide so three in a linear 3 spot holder works fine for me.
