Bath mixer taps - why so expensive ?

I've been thinking about changing my bath taps for a mixer tap with an integral shower head, but am alarmed at the price these things seem to be. Even at B&Q the cheapest I could find was about £200 and they go up to over £500
Any ideas where I can get this kind of thing at a reasonable price ? and why are they so much money ?

I find Ebay very useful for taps.

It is worth considerign thermostatic mixer taps, already legal requirement in Scotland I believe and being considered in UK. These prevent scolding and control the water temperature.

Re: Bath mixer taps - why so expensive ?

I bought some nice ones off a seller called BanyoUK (I think) on ebay and they have been great for a year - the mixer was £65 and a 'tall tap' was £50.

One thing to be mindful of whether the taps need a combi-boiler (pressurised) system - I bought some after not reading the description properly!

Re: Bath mixer taps - why so expensive ?

SWMBO was looking at a mixer tap from B&Q which cost £150.

Got a very similar one from IKEA of all places for around £30

Re: Bath mixer taps - why so expensive ?

Another vote for ebay....Or just find a local independent hardware store which I did subsequently when I discovered what the ebay sellers were and was even able to beat the ebay prices....B&Q and the likes are just unbelievably expensive

Re: Bath mixer taps - why so expensive ?

Screwfix.com do a reasonable selection, but any shower fitting with a thermostat in will be £169+.
