He is, or rather was as he's no longer PM, representing Thailand at the UN. This isn't the first time this has happened, and sadly won't be the last. Their neighbours Burma are under, and have been for years, a military dictatorship, and Thailand has been on and off for the last thirty. It came as a surprise because it's had a democracy for an unusually long time - 15 years.
Because the Thais are prepared for these events, you may find little changes beyond the obvious restrictions.
