Lo there
What do people know about Corby?
The wife and I have seen a lovely house up there at a new development site, 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, double garage, good sized living room, fully fitted kitchen etc etc.
It is a bit of a big move for us, and I don't want to make any mistakes with this. So just wondering what people think of the place and also any passing on of knowledge with regard to future developments of the area.
Thanks in advance
Kaz

RS Components are based in Corby
It's one of the 10 most unhealthy places in the UK http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/5299510.stm
Other than that, I know nothing!

From what I heard it's kind of rough although the council has been working hard at improving it in the last 2 or so years.
A good indication is whether the house you're looking at is way cheaper than anything similar in towns around.
I've not really been there mind.
If you know the postcode, try this http://www.homecheck.co.uk
It will tell you a lot about the area.

I used to sell to them a few years ago - fantastic warehousing operation - if that's what floats your boat!

It's rough, loads of council estates, high unemployment
The loft used to fill up with coal/slag dust from the Basic Slag works (now closed) so you couldn't store anything there. Nice rec, horrid 60s shopping centre and bus station.
I haven't been there for 10 years but nothing much changes.
I bet the schools are REALLY bad now.

Apparently the local government are working hard to renovate the area, and this new development isn't a few miles away from the town centre, so I doubt we'd be heading in there much anyway, what, with Kettering less than 6 miles away.
But, saying that, there is only so much one can do to improve mediocrity, and if Corby is really bad, may be it is better to just move away from the idea now?

Can you not go and visit the area for a weekend? Seeing the town centre over a weekend might show you the best and worst the area has to offer.

my wifes family are from corby,my wife and i have been a few times when her gran was alive but luckily can avoid it now.
imho it,s a sh*ithole and best avoided, plenty of jocks about, left over from the days of the steelworks,so you will hear a really weird accent thats a mix of scottish and something else?
no matter how good the price is on this property i would stay well clear.as with all new builds theres always a certain amount that are for the local population of scumbags that need rehousing etc. etc.i,d be pretty pi**ed off to find after spending £200.000+ on a house to then find i,m living next to or over the road from some god awful family.and i bet theres plenty of them.
just my personal opinion of course.sorry if i have offended anyone with my comments, but this place is one of the worst towns i have ever had the misfortune of visiting.

My dad used to work at RS in Corby. We almost moved there, but my parents thought it was really rough and we moved near market harborough instead
