Non Spoof Ebay Email

After millions of spoof emails from ebay and paypal, I actually got a real one.

Just took ages to convince myself it was real, the title itself looked dodgy enough

A28 FPA NOTICE #UK: eBay Password Reset - myusername Follow Instructions Immediately

then

In order to protect the security of your eBay account, we have reset your password and secret question. This action was taken because your password may have been compromised.

We cannot disclose the investigative procedures that led to this conclusionbut please know that we acted in your best interest. We appreciate your cooperation in working with us to protect your account by taking the following steps.

would have ignored it as fake, except it didnt supply any links to click on to reset password, so eventually i typed ebay.co.uk into add bar, and found I had indeed been locked out

I wonder what caused that? its strange that I haven't used the account more than 10 times in three years, except this last week when I have listed 50+ items in a mass clearout

Does this happen often? luckily i signed up for ebay before i became lazy - ever since i normally enter random dob's and nonsensical secret questions.

One time i had to phone ladbrokes to reset my password

Ladbrokes, what is your mum's maiden name
me: gave my mum's maiden name
Ladbrokes, no, thats wrong
me: oh sorry, is it krusty? (remembering i had probably entered something rubbish)
ladbrokes correct

(it wasnt actually krusty, but something similarly stupid)

Re: Non Spoof Ebay Email

I am also an intermittent Ebay user and received that email a couple of months ago so I picked a new password and all was well for 24 hours until I received another email saying that my new login details had been compromised too so I had to do it yet again.

I also have no idea why or how but I haven't had a problem since.

There's a large amount of account hijacking going on currently, esp in the Hifi and cameras sections, and your account may well have been a victim of that.

If you look at what's going on there, you'd be amazed at the number of Krells/Levinsons/etc etc going for the usual "Buy Now" of £700 or less to an email address.
