I've destroyed my wireless broadband!

I've been having problems with my wireless, ie, getting no signal! So i bought a booster ariel.

Basically it wouldn't just fit, given that my linksys router opperates a closed system, so i decided to pull it apart and see if i could do a bit of modification.

But now i've jsut destroyed it. I basically have two bits of frayed cables just touching each other and no signal!!!

Does anyone know how to connect the two cables, and whether i can or do i need an adapter??

Please help me, I don't like not having the internet!!!

Shouldn't laugh...but when people who know nothing about something, take said item apart, and make the situation worse......well, it makes me chuckle.

It's electrical, it can't be too hard. I'll work it out eventually, i'm sure, just wanted to know if there was a tried and tested method, save myself hours of trying different stuff.

Next time i do it I'll have lernt from my experience.

You've destroyed your router. Don't believe the AOL marketing "wireless broadband" doesn't exist.

Re: I've destroyed my wireless broadband!

So before coming on this forum to find out whether it was a software problem, which with routers + wireless setups; it is often the case, you took it apart?

You're just gonna have to go back to the old modem....until you buy another router

I applaud your resolve to modify the unit, but I must admit you may have been a little rash. Did you not consider taking advise or a obtaining a wiring diagram first?

It's more than just "electrical". There are radio frequency (RF) considerations ; we're talking about 2.4 GHz not 50 Hz mains!
You could try posting some close up pictures of the PCB so that any microstriplines , baluns etc. can be seen.

Re: I've destroyed my wireless broadband!

Mate, for the relative low cost of these toys today i would throw it away buy new and have done with it, sorted.
Avoid screwdrivers and superglue as (humorously) being practical and being realistic appear not to be bedfellows.

Indeed. UTV Internet are advertising a "free wireless modem" with their service.

Well I don't know what model of linksys router you have, but they all look pretty much the same to me anyway. Have a look at this site. It gives detailed instructions on how to disassemble/reassemble a linksys WRT54G router. This is the model I have and I have had reason to visit this site myself following a failed firmware flash.

Re: I've destroyed my wireless broadband!

Sorry mate, it's been promised to medical science, ie I decided to destroy it completly now, just to see what it all does... basically it just sits there not doing much.

which is slightly annoying because before it was transfering lots of wisdom through the wonder of the air. It's a shadow of its former self now...

Maybe we should say a prayer for it???

Cheers for all the advice guys!!!
