Althletics question

Why do the athletes run anticlockwise in track events?

Must be how the track drains then

Most other races are the same ie horses, cars etc.

i would imagine its because the majority of people are right handed, which also means right legged........if you try to walk in a straight line without vision or a point of reference, you will inadvertently end up going round in an anticlockwise circle (unless you are a sinister leftie like me, in which case you'd go in a clockwise circle)....this is because your prominent use limb is stronger, therefore can take a longer stride with more power behind it.....so it would make sense that the limb that has to be used more when going round the bend of the track is being used at its optimum......granted this is a little unfair on lefties, but thats life....heh

possibly there is another reason.......who knows..
