Supermarket Special Offers - aaarrrgghh!

Yet again today I've bought something in a supermarket because it's
on special & hours later I notice on the receipt I was charged incorrectly. This must happen to me nearly everytime I visit Morrisons & can I be asked to go back there?...probably not.

Olive Oil salad dressing thing - £1.88 or 2 for £2.49, so I buy 2 saving £1.27, I'm charged £ 3.76!! Arrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh

this always happens as stock will move quicker than members of staff who update in store systems.

Most supermarkets these days use a realtime EPOS system and frequently go offline so I could go through a till with 2 Olive Oil salad dressing things and get them for £1.88 each then the tills online part detects that there is an offer and applies the discount. If the till then goes offline it wont know theres an offer associated so it can only charge the last price it went through at which was £1.88.

Still this can work in you favour when food that is on offer gets reduced because if the till is online the offer works no matter what your paying for the item. Had this a few times where they actually end up paying me to take things away.

I always check my reciept as I'm walking out. I come across a few mistakes.

Last night I bought 2 for £4 packs of frozen peas but was charged the full £2.19 each.

I went to the ASDA customer service desk and showed them the reciept. They refunded the 38p ( ) but they also gave me a £2 voucher as an apology.

Happens everytime

Have worked for some of the top supermarkets and in each of them they had a store override system. The EPOS system mainly does not check the price it just finds out that if its on offer or not in store then matches the daily price.

There will be either a team or a member of staff (Which was my job.) who looks after point of sale changes (Special offers). It certain stores they will control BOGOF offers and so on.

They will be informed when the promotion will run and when it will stop. It’s up to this store to keep their store up to date. This is what happens sometimes when you go into the same store in a diiferent location not the same offers at the time.

What happens, is that the stock would be auto ordered by the system due to the extra demand on the stock levels. Stock will be on sale first thing yet update might not happen until later that day or stock on shelf too early and no special offer.

I stopped shopping at Sainburys for this very reason, by far the worst culprits for this type of thing in my experience.

If this ever happens please, please make sure you use the Tesco policy of refunding the full amount and letting you keep the item if they overcharge by even 1p.

I've used it plenty of times and have been refunded while keeping the item. Not managed to get any incorrectly priced DVDs yet but I check my receipt every time!!
