Phones without contracts

Now, i know i'm being gready but i've just upgraded my phone to a W810i, i'm quite happy but only had to upgrade because my last phone had stopped working, ideally i would have liked to wait till now. Certainly because the new K800i is now out, and i want it lots and lots.

Before i start chucking stuff out of my pram, does anyone know anywhere i could pick up a cheap handset only, without the contract?

I know i'm asking a lot but i'm sure you'll all understand my need for technology!

I'm not sure why anyone would sell a new model SIM free cheaply, when there is high demand and they can charge more.

However, I have found that buying a phone on PAYG (and not using the PAYG SIM) is cheaper than buying it SIM free - although I've no idea why.

The networks fund pay as you go, because they expect people to use them on their network and so they can generate revenue that way.

Yes, I suppose they must subsidise them for that reason. And most people probably wouldn't want the phones available on PAYG as SIM free anyway.

Virtually all phones are available on pay as you go. The mobile companies even give some pay as you go customers a free upgrade to anyphone they want.

Basically some people run up bills into the thousands each month, however because they have bad credit or because they are dodgy they use Pay as you Go instead of going in a contract.
