DVD storage solution?

Hi,

I have about 400 dvds and the storage I have for them consists of a large carboard box on the floor, through which I rummage around to watch a dvd most nights.

I have decided that after it took me almost half an hour to locate a particular dvd that it is time to look for a storage solution.

Having scanned the internet, all I can find is cheap, mdf crap that stores about 50 dvds, or larger solutions that store about 200 or so.

Is there anything out there that caters for the dvd enthusiast?

What do you use? I have the DIY skills of Frank Spencer so going that way is a no-no.

Cheers,

These are a cheap solution and don't take much putting together either - got to be better than a cardboard box. Wouldn't say they are the best looking units in the world but they are out of the way in my house and hold all my stuff

Just put up some shelves! You can then spend absurd amounts of time dividing them into sub-categories and filing them alphabetically. And still curse you you can't find "anything" to watch without buying another new disc...

just pop to ikea and buy a bookcase......they aint difficult to put together, few screws and thats about it!

most bookcases of around 4 or 5 shelves and around 3.5ft wide will happily hold 400 DVD's...

i use one shelf on my deep bookcase to hold around 150 of mine (its 3 cases deep)...lol.....the rest are in some little wire fancy looking upright holders (25 a piece) and on a shelf on the wall....

I just went to my local Pine shop and picked up a couple of bookcases. Each one takes about 400 give or take depending on how many box sets you've got.

Not very eligant but I store mine in a CD bag and stash the cases in the loft since I have no space for DVDs. Each bag stores approximately 250 and takes up very little space. Draw up a list and laminate it and store it in the bag. Works for me and since you store them in a box anyway......

Has anyone come across any of these bookshelves that can be wall mounted ? I don't have the space to put on on the floor but could mount a couple on the wall above my desk.

One of These with any USB2 hub, and a variety of These (or equivalent / different sizes etc.) and some copies of This to suit. Oh, and one of these. Plus either a reasonable speed wireless network or a liberal sprinkling of Cat-5 around the place.

We can now watch any home video, commercial DVD, photo show or play any of extensive catalogue of music from any one of four PC's, kitchen or bedroom TVs using these and on the plasma in the lounge using this. We can also listen to music in high quality via this.

And all the DVDs CDs video tapes etc. just get wrapped in binbags, sealed into cardboard boxes and stored in the loft/garage probably never to see the light of day again!

Not as cheap as a pine shelving unit admittedly, but takes up a lot less space and is supremely flexible.

I ve got one of these with about 180 DVD's on it. Also have a 4 rows of single shelf media units which fit about 70 DVD's on each. These were from ikea but cant find them on the website.

Use a couple or several or half a dozen mirror plates mounted to the side rails of a standard bookshelf, and screw the plates to the wall. Mount them facing inwards and they won't show once you fill the shelves.

I use one of these http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...roductId=11317

Comes whth wall mounts, but i bought some castors so it doubles as a window seat.

But if you were really clever and has space under the floor, you could create some sort of pop up rack system.

You must be joking

I would rather chainsaw off both my legs than sit and rip my entire dvd collection

Go for the digital catalogueing solution. This reads the disc when you insert it, remembers the file names and
catalogues for future reference.

I can get these trade price around 90 quid each if your interested.
