Thanks: Gave 9, Got 1 | Jack Bauer's "Man" bag
My attempts at getting the Wife to watch "24" have seriously backfired! Although she watched only 1 episode in 3 (I have to fill her in on the rest!), she really does like Jack. Most men might be concerned that their wife likes another man however I feel it's the manbag that he carries around with him that she really likes.
She often mentions it and has insisted that come Christmas, I too will be a modern day man just like Jack (minus the guns and ability to break a man's neck with a stare!)
I'm even getting comments like "i'm fed up of carrying my bag, never mind, when you get yours, you'll be able to carry my purse"
Now given the Wife's obsession with bags, I am getting a little worried that I might start liking it and will want it in different colours, sizes, more pockets, less pockets, no pockets, more shelving to store them on. Perhaps I will also start wanting matching wallets. Worse still, matching shoes.
Jack may save the world one day every year but I doubt he'll be there come December 25th.
I hope they kill off Jack's manbag in the last few episodes and maybe my Wife will associate it with death and thus not buy me one. It may however her inspire her to buy it sooner!
Does anyone else have any experience of manbags and how this ever increasing threat to men can be quashed?
Many thanks in advance!

there is and old episode of steptoe and son where harold uses a manbag . if you can get a copy of this you can show it to your wife . this should put her off manbags.

Manbags are just the 21st Century equivalent of a yuppies Filofax... a big no no for any self respecting bloke. Surely we have pockets to keep all our stuff in

I'll have to mention that it's not an invisibility manbag. That could be my way out of this conundrum. My only problem there though is that she has watched Harry Potter and might try buying me an invisibility cloak for Christmas instead. I think i'd rather a manbag than a cloak!
I'll have to have that conversation about reality and fiction with her again!

SMH Man bags are Uber Ghey!11!! at least a filofax could appear usefull plus I think thats more like a pda now. Man bags are the new bumb bags(fanny packs).
Want a small bag to wear over the shoulder then buy a gun bag (SMG) size . or get a small back pack like a Camelbak Mule (Mil spec)
...if shes paying then get her to buy you a Crumpler manbag |

Ebay is now the easiest place to source a variety of bags like that.

Like to see anyone tell Jack he isn't a self respecting bloke...
For me, anything Jack does is super cool. Man bags included. I'm not going to get one mind you, but if I did, it would be his exact one.

Loads of places in europe they are the normal thing. The last small bag I bought was a mans, got it from a department store in Germany, much better made than most ladies bags! Seen them in Italy too.

20 years ago I moved from the South to Newcastle where attitudes were a little more old fashioned (I'm being polite) and I carried a small bag as I didn't want to stuff my suit pockets full of keys, wallets, chequebooks, lighter and cigarettes etc.
I was taken to one side by the factory foreman who had a quiet word in my ear that in the North East it was considered effeminate to carry a bag. What amused me is that this chap had no qualms about perming his hair or wearing an earring which were also womens' traditions but because the sheep hadn't yet started to carry bags en masse it was frowned upon and deemed to be a sign of homosexuality.
I also owned a restaurant in Newcastle at the same time and recall walking down Northumberland Street with my restaurant manager one evening to be met by a gang of Geordie lads looking at me and singing "We know who's a pooftah" as we walked past but completely ignoring my colleague who thought it hilarious and also happened to be gay.

I hope you do not have a daughter
