Rooney poster

I put this in here because its more than just about football. For me it ranks as being in the worst possible taste rivalling anything Benneton released. Its howas rooeny as nothing morer than a thug with a red cross resembling blood , with what look like two fangs with a mean, vicious and aggressive expression on his face. What kind of statement does that make about our flag and our people?

Nope I shant be buying a St Georges cross. Not now!

I agree that it isn't very tasteful, but I doubt that was part of the brief given by Nike to their advertising agency. As an advert I suspect it will be very successful.

I also quite liked it, I thought it demonstrated great passion and made for a powerful image.

Well its certainly getting the publicity, just what Nike paid for. Its certainly stirred a few people up, but isnt that what advertising agencys do?

I think it's a superb advert for the passion and celebration we all hope to see in the coming weeks. Rooney's face is one of wild celebration with his body resembling the English national flag.

Those groups and individuals that find this offensive are the ones who like to look for such things. The cross of st george is clearly depicted as is Rooney's obvious passion for the World Cup.

Comparing this to the crusades (?) and the crucifixion, for me, is finding fault and taking offense when none is intended.

Cue the PC brigade ......

He is an Englishman, showing his pride. I am too, by flying a couple of flags.
