Parcel Force - Claim

Hopefully you folks have an idea of what i should do next.

I sent a parcel containing a Home Cinema System (amp, speakers. the lot) down to a guy who bought it off eBay.

It was well packed over two sturdy boxes, he bought it for £80 including £21 courier costs with insurance included. (I actually miss judged the cost of sending it, I charged him £20 it actually cost £21, oh well, I loose!)

When he received the parcels they were trashed, and i mean really stomped on. The metal chassis of the amp was dented heavily as well as the speakers damaged.

I got pictures, kicked off a claim with parcel force who in turn passed it to an 'independent' company to go out and have a look at the damaged kit.

I've just got a letter today stating that they (parcel force) take care of there parcels and the report find that the damage was due to inadequate packaging.

Really off as I spent a lot of time packing it out with polystyrene and foam. I'd struggle to damage it to the extent it was damaged in transit by giving it a swift drop kick without any packing!

I'm Lost for what to do next, this just seems like a farce.

I had a claim refused by Parcelforce once. The item arrived with a huge dent. They gave the same excuse - 'inadequate packaging'. Thing was, I used the manufacturer's original carton. They wouldn't entertain it.

Next time I used them was via an agent, only this time they lost the parcel, and I ended up taking the agent to small claims court (online)... read all about it here...

(Another) Courier Moan... ideas/suggestions?

Whatever you decide to try - good luck!

Check their terms and conditions. If somewhere its says something like "We will refuse to accept parcels that are inadequatley packaged" and they have accepted it then it follows that they were happy with the packaging.

A long shot, but it may work!

Just "hound " them.

Honestly i had the same issue as you, they said the same, poor packaging etc.

I just sent a polite email stating the facts,ie, whats the point of taking insuarance out when you wont pay a legitimate claim?

It took a while but they paid up in the end...

Next time book through me.

The claim process takes a bit longer (between 4-8 weeks) but I always get paid out as they dont want to wind up someone who spends around 5k a month with them.

I've had the same issue twice now with UPS. I currently have an investigation underway regarding the 2nd claim being refused.

Both times they have stated inadequate packaging as the cause; coincidentally these parcels were the only ones I've ever sent by them where they had to attempt re-delivery on. I have sent a huuuuggge letter including twenty-two photographs of damage caused to the goods and packaging.

Going by the tracking history, they "investigated" the damage for a grand total of 1hr 10mins before the package was winging its way back to me . At the very least, I'd expect some more thorough investigation.

I will not let this one go and am determined to get my money back.

Make sure you keep on at Parcelforce too.

And I can vouch for that.

Just a brief update. Today, UPS overturned the decision to not pay out on the claim. They are sending me the paperwork tomorrow.

Justice prevails at last.
