The most over priced thing on the internet.

Ok here is a place to post links to the most ridiculously overpriced things you can find on the internet. I have seen several horrendously over priced things recently, including the £29.99 USB cable, however what I have just come across really takes the cake.

Presenting:

The £284 shaving brush.

Obviously, from the price tag it is quite obvious this is made of something special. Well… you’d be right, it’s made partly from the finest "super grade badger hair" Why, oh God why?

I don’t think anyone will be able to top this, however you might as well have a go. It should make for some good entertainment.

pretty strange all this coming from a forum where members take out a mortgage to buy "speshul" cables for their av systems...

its like that kids tv program where they asked you to phone in the highest and lowest prices for a kit kat

and they happily used to announce, bob from colchester saw a kitkat sold for 300 pounds, until they though to ask for receipts as well

Zymol Royale CAR WAX - £7188 a pot (actually you do get free refils for ever)
And from the bloke who uses it: The premium car wash costs £600+

So £7188 for car wax, and £600 for a car wash. Thats rather overpriced.

How about a wooden volume knob for $485.00 (£285)

Clicky

Does anyone actually believe this cr*p and buy stuff like this???
Quote:
The point here is the micro vibrations created by the volume pots and knobs find their way into the delicate signal path and cause degradation (Bad vibrations equal bad sound). With the signature knobs micro vibrations from the C37 concept of wood, bronze and the lacquer itself compensate for the volume pots and provide (Good Vibrations) our ear/brain combination like to hear…way better sound!!

What about a collection of say, 500 DVDs, that cost £7500 and sit on a shelf and gather dust for 99.9% of their life.

I'm sure there's plenty of those about!!

"Upgrading your fibre-optic cable to KIMBER’s OPT-1 will let you hear a more detailed, musical sound. It’s great to use for digital recording to a CD or MiniDisc recorder, or to link surround sound from your DVD player to your Home Cinema amp."

This is a blatant lie. Trading standards could prove this one. The light signal from an optic fibre cannot be "improved" by anything. It's 1's and 0's with a buffer at each end and error correction to ensure a complete signal - this means the above is a lie.

Good spot here mate, couldn't agree more!

"Good vibrations, Bad vibrations it’s all about vibrations!! RAM would like to introduce a new signature level knob developed for the mighty Silver Rock potentiometer. The standard bakelite knob is certainly the best sounding compromise... but now Audio Consulting has taken this aspect of the Silver Rock much further. The new knobs are custom made with beech wood and bronze where the bronze is used as the insert to mount to the stem of the volume pot. The beech wood is coated several times with C37 lacquer for best sound as pointed out by Dieter Ennemoser. How can this make a difference??? Well, hearing is believing as we always say. The sound becomes much more open and free flowing with a nice improvement in resolution. Dynamics are better and overall naturalness is improved. Here is a test for all you Silver Rock owners. Try removing the bakelite knobs and listen. You will be shocked by this! The signature knobs will have an even greater effect…really amazing!

Knobs can easily be installed on all versions of the Silver Rock potentiometer."

Yes they can easily be fitted. In fact the supplier will fly all the way from the US to fit them and take a free holiday while he's here.

OMG, someone actually made a high end machine that could be improved by changing the knob on the front - now that would be worrying if I paid out a fortune for that piece of kit. Imagine if someone told you your £15,000 60 inch Sim2 LCD had an inherent design fault and could be improved by removing the fascia!!!

Scary thing is that there is probably plenty of cash-laden idiots who take this stuff seriously (<sigh>...wish I could meet some of them)....

Sort of 'emperors new clothes' syndrome.

If some company tells you that THEIR cable will increase the quality of your music/AV some people will definitely hear the improvement, even if there is none.

But as you say, if they have that much money, they are so worried about NOT buying the cable cos they feel they might miss that extra 0.000001% improvement in sound.

Sad.
