Question Water - So how much do you drink?

Ok so I'm closing in rapidly on the big 40 and was chatting with a mate the other day about keep fit and diets (we decided against discussing hair and clothes I might add )
Now up until recently I drank alcohol pretty much every night, a four pack with whiskey chasers or one or two bottles of wine not a problem, weekends I hate to think!
As you can imagine I felt pretty ropey most work days so decided to knock the drink on the head Monday through Friday and drink nothing but water.

Currently drinking 6/7 pints minimum a day (waking up during the night see's me put away a couple of pints), feel so much better as you can imagine, still drink what would be considered excess on a weekend but thats me letting what's left of my hair down.

So just wondering how much water do you drink

If it's not in coffee, soft drinks or booze then none-at all. Something which I ought to change!

At my last job 2 to 3 liters a day. New job, none, not good. Next job after this one, hopefully back to 2 to 3 liters a day.

It really made me feel loads better. Did not get tired at all during the day.

I don't drink water on it's own either, I drink lots of water with cordial but not water on it's own. I should do really, I also have a chilled water & ice dispenser (American style fridge freezer) in the kitchen which the kids & the missus love.

Oh and I know i'm going to be on my own here but I don't drink alcohol either & never have, I still have a great time when I go out, I just don't need drink to relax.

Don't like coffee (wierdo I know, never grew into it ), like tea but can't be arsed to make it + hot drinks all day - why???

So, I drink water all day everyday, probably 5 pints at work (when i remember), at home diet coke or lemonade, water during the night & beer in large quantities........

I know I don't drink enough water, I drink lots of coffee but would be far better off with plain water. I just need to get into the habit.

I got into a bit of a rut, working in the centre of Manchester when 2 pints at lunch time and a few cans in the evening became a habit. I counted something like 28 consecutive working days of pub visiting - not good

Having moved base now to outside the city centre, I've started to drink at least 1 litre of water per day - buying those six packs of Evian is a top tip as you can take a bottle around with you and can quantify how much you've drunk each day rather than trying to remember.

Having weighed in at a wonderful fighting weight of 16 1/2 stone over Xmas, I've got down to 14st 12lbs and feel totally different - my energy levels are much higher and visiting the gym is not the nightmare proposition it once was.

OK, so stopping eating pies at dinner and avoiding takeaways has helped but I think drinking as much water as you can (at least 1 litre per day) definitely helps your internal organs to function better. Almost every medical programme I watch starts with, "drink more water" as part of the solution to common illnesses.

to H20!

I drink loads of water, but I add yeast, sugar and other flavourings to it to make it naturally carbonated. To get the right level of carbonation it makes it 5% alcohol in the process but it's an organic natural product so I'm sure it must be good for me

About 5 pints of water and about 15 cups of coffee at work.

Rather a lot of cider and lager in the evenings though

Cool

Apart from when I have a alcoholic drink (not to often in the week wine with a few meals and a couple of bottles of beer on Saturday) I always drink water although not enough as I never get thirst and have to make myself drink.

EDIT sometimes a herbal tea but I think thats classed as part of the water per day.

Tea and coffee are diuretics, which means the hormone that controls the amount of water you reabsorb from your urine in your kidneys is decreased, so tea and coffee actually dehydrate you.

That's very sensible as once you start to feel thirsty you are already dehydrated.

Yes, although 5 liters a day maybe excessive. there are some very important bacteria in your gut that don't handle having that much water thrown at them very well.

i mostly drink just water, i tend to sweat easily so need to replace it, obviously taking care to balance it out with a bit of salt as well......

usual pattern in the week is 1 litre before work (i get up at 9ish, drink a litre. have a bath then go to work for midday), have a 1.5 litre bottle at work (finish work at 5pm, no im not lazy, its due to medical reasons i cant work more hours), then have another 1.5litre when i get home before dinner, grab another 1.5 to have with dinner, then a final 1.5 litre to see me thru till around this time of night when i go to bed......so about 7 litres on a weekday....altho thats if i dont drink wine, if i do drink wine (or beer) then miss out the 1.5 litre with dinner, still drink all the rest....

tell you what, my skin is lovely and clear and smooth most of the time...heh....i remember my japanese ex-g/f used to get really miffed at me because of that....she spent literally hundreds of £'s on creams and lotions etc to have smooth skin, i spend a few quid on water...haha......

only time i get not so great skin is thru stress....

i was untill this week drinking a wee bit too much alkyhol tho and eating too much crap, so on a detox atm.....no alcohol untill the end of the month, no snacks at work, only 1 slice of buttered toast with jam in the morning so i got a little energy for work....(i sit at a desk so dont exactly need a lot..lol)......then a nice dinner in the evening, either some pasta and tuna type stuff, or a salad and cheese sandwich, possibly egg noodles with lots and lots of beansprouts and other watery veg (chestnuts, brocolli etc).......only been going on it 3 days and i've lost the bloated feeling...lol....(amazing how you dont realise just how bloated alcohol and crap food makes you.....its not fat as such, just swelling....lol)......once i've done a few weeks of cut back i can start exercising as my body will be happier about it...heh

only time i drink other drinks is special occasions or whatever, Tea is a saturday morning after a hangover affair with a couple slices of peanut butter on toast......coffee is mostly an after dinner thing (as in family dinner, not just me sitting down to dinner)......soft drinks i barely touch these days.....coke mebbe at the cinema, lemonade mebbe with gin, squashes/cordials almost never, fruit juice not very often as i get heart burn easily from it...always have since i was a kid, which sucked because i like the stuff..doh

I try to drink a lot more water nowadays. I live in a warm climate, so it's even more necessary. I had a small kidney stone 10 years ago, and you don't want one. So drink plenty of water! ...and beer and wine and scotch and...

I don't drink half as much water as I should. Drink loads of weak tea throughout the day and wine or elderflower cordial in the evening. Apart from the ocassional fruit juice or bottle of water thats pretty much my range! Don't do coffee, fizzy drinks, spirits...well if its offered I would but not through choice.

I know tea's a diuretic but I read somewhere that it would still count towards your daily fluid intake. Is that right?

Ive just started working out again and so i'm drinking a lot of water now, being hydrated is very important, helps protein synthesis i.e muscle building plus if you are properly hydrated, then your body has no need to 'store' extra water Feel a lot better for it as well!

I don't drink enough - well, compared to you lot, i mean, litres a day...

I normally drink a 1/2 litre bottle at work and have about 4-5 cups of sh*tty coffeee at work...I normally drink fresh juice or wine in the evenings...

Judging by your late night postings I doubt the 5 litres is all water
