Re-Charging UK gadgets in Canada

Im off to Toronto in July and i'm going to be taking such gadgets as PSP, iriver MP3 player and philips rechargable shaver.

But can i plug these into Candaian plug socket using some sort of convertor?

If so, any suggestions on said convertor?

I can live without shaver, but portable entertainment is a must

Just buy a travel adaptor which you can probably pick up in Boots, Tesco, the airport....it will specify the region of the world so look for North America.

If you check the details on the chargers /adaptors you wish to use, it will tell you what voltages will work with this device.

For example - my Samsung mobile phone charger works from 100V - 240V (and Canada uses 110V I think) so all I would need for this would be a plug adaptor, this sort of thing:

If any of the appliances you wish to use demand only a certain voltage (230V) then you will need a voltage adaptor which I believe is a more specific item.

But from past experience (been to Canada twice) I have used a standard 'plug adaptor' sometimes called a 'travel adaptor' in the shops, with all my rechargeable goodies, and had no problems.

Hope this helps a bit!

PS Toronto is AWESOME, we absolutely loved it! Make sure you get up that tower, I recommend going early in the day because after 10/11 am all the coachloads of tourists arrive, you have to queue for the lifts for an hour and a half!!! Go up on Saturday morning at 9.30am, get breakfast (I recommend waffles with fresh strawberries and cream) and look out over a wonderful city!

Yes, just to confirm, check your chargers but most nowdays work with most common voltages and should be fine on 110 or 230. Just need a plug adaptor. I carry a plug adaptor and a power strip so I can charge all my stuff from thier UK sockets from a single adaptor.

If you have any questions about Toronto; bars, stores, restaurants, give me a shout and I'll try and help you. Been here nearly 2 years now and it's an ace place, plus I live in Mid-Town Toronto. I can also recommend going up the CN Tower late in the evening, about an hour before closing as it's very quiet and you'll get some good sunset piccies too! Oh, and if last year is anything to go by it will be very hot in July so be prepared.
