BBC Radio DJ wages

Clicky

Sir Terry Wogan on a cool 800k but it's only 10p for every listener he gets or 25 quid per minute on air. Outdone though by Jonathan Ross's cool 56 quid a minute

And it goes on. Do you think they're worth it?

Well, I suppose we shouldn't knock it. Where else would people like TW and JR work, were it not for the media ? It keeps them off the streets, I suppose

Right now this makes feel half way between sick and furious.

I'm sick of being taxed like hell to pay for that kind of stuff. Seriously even if they were paid half that they'd be rich !

I think they're worth every penny. Better than the drivel on Radio 1. Wonder what Chris Moyles is on?

As a side note. How much do you think Sky pay the likes of Andy Gray & Richard Keys?

It comes out of license fees not tax. They are being paid at a competative rate, it's not as if they wouldnt get that at a different station.

Well the licence fee is a tax in a way

No, let's not argue whether TV is a luxury or not

Seeing as BBC radio and web services get a tiny percentage of the annual budget...I support that part of the BBC. And BBC sport

I think hes great and I would gladly pay him 65k a year for working 15 hours a week but 650k is to much sorry Chris.

Congrats Mate.

I don't listen to the radio, so I guess that I could not tell. Does sound like a awful lot of money though but then as said previously, do we want these people wandering the streets?

I also think the likes of JR and TW have a contract covering their whole BBC output (i.e. Eurovision, Points Of View, Friday Night with JR, Film 2006, They Think Its All Over etc...)

Most of them are an enjoyable bunch to listen to; though the likes of Moyles, Evans, Cox, and quite a few loudmouthed but thick as pigs--- DJs on Radio 1 do indeed pee a lot of listeners off. Then there's Jo Whiley a sycophantic pretentious failed music journo always licking Madonna's or someone elses arse.

I much prefer BBC Radio 5 Live and Radio 4 by the way

Cool

The majority of BBC Radio DJ’s I rather not listen to and it’s the better paid Id rather not listen to, their so full of themselves. I like to listen to Brian Mathews on a Saturday morning and in the past use really like listening to Ray Moore brilliant wit.

How can anyone, whatever they do be worth £1500 per hour (let alone £3.3k/hour for J. Ross)? They're not a thousand times better than you and me!

And TV licence is a "tax" in the way that whether I watch and listen to the BBC or not I have to pay it because I dare watching other channels.

I agree that they're overpaid, many of them for total mediocrity, thats media market forces unfortunately
- however I don't think I would be interested in listening to any of my friends or family broadcast because they'd be crap, probably a thousand times as crap

Didn't This Is Your Life once go through a phase of having members of the Great British public as subjects - it just doesn't work with ordinary people

Maybe a thousand times better than you, but certainly not than me money wise

Anyway, simply market forces...If it wasn't for people buying into their stupid things, wanting to read about celeberities....Or all sorts of other so called non-intellectual professions....You the public are paying them, wanting to know about them and perhaps even aspire to be like them.....

Really sad society...And then people get upset because a GP has the potential to earn more than 100K....Unbelievable....

not really "upcoming" - he's been Radio 1's "supply DJ" for years always moving around the schedules, never quite as gobby / charismatic / annoying / talented as his better paid colleagues

I find him annoying and very much aimed at kids/chavs and think at "only" 130K he's still overpaid

Couldn't agree more! Terry Wogan makes me laugh in the morning (as does Moyles) but Ray Moore used to have me in hysterics - still sadly missed.

Personally i only ever listen to Radio 1 if i like the DJ and the only one i like now is Chris Moyles since Mark and Lard moved on. I cannot STAND the rest of them.

i think the likes of wogan and ross are well worth their money, they have to work crap hours (even if it is only 4 a day )and have to constantly mind what they say... i couldnt do it

if you dont like the fact they earn that kinda money then you go do their job better and earn twice as much!

I think they're well worth it. It's rather less than Chris Tarrant used to be paid when he was on Capital (mind you, he was good at it).

I thought Mark Radcliffe was getting a poor cut, though. Mark, if you're reading this, ask for a pay rise!

I mainly listen to Radio 2 and 6music. I'm more than happy to pay for these via the licence fee, because I can't stand the adverts on commercial radio. And if you've ever heard the morons on 3 Counties Radio, you'll realise what good value the Radio 2 DJs are!

every morning, RDS kicks in to 3 counties, and "it's quite literally coming up to rush hour, here's Jeremy with the latest on those roads", a tape recorder could be more varied, and his whining, nasal utterances make me furious before I've even heard that the motorway is closed, then it's the advert for the next show which sounds paralyzingly boring about how an old woman's dog looks a bit like Ian Paisley, or an argument about where to put gypsies, why don't they switch off the rds broadcast when they've finished? Why don't they lock the doors and go home, does anyone actually listen to Radio Bumpkin or Inbred FM?

If the DJ is pulling in the listeners then they should get the pay to suit. Regarding Radio 1, if the sun story was true then I suspect there'll be some pay changes soon, it all gets messy when wage slips go public.
