i'm sitting outside tescos waiting for my son to finish his shift usually i have to pick him up at 5.30am on weekends anyone else have to do similar? this via my XDA2i

In Manchester public transport starts earlier than you'd believe. I get that fact pointed out to me

Oh, I'm not up 'cos I'm up at work. Quit the graveyard shift time ago. It's this damn english cswrk. Can't sleep leaving it as it is. I need to change my screenplay...it's not Tarantino-witty like Pulp Fiction enough. I'll shut up now

Yeah i was outside Tescos at that time because of the Easter hols he had to change to a 6 to 2am shift! Its so unfair for him to have to pay £7.00 on a cab fare so I offered, I wasn't at work myself until 7.30 this morning so it wasn't that bad Don't you lot do things like this for your kids?

I did work and browsed the web till about 5am. Went to the gym at 6am 'cos I couldn't sleep. Stayed for 3 hrs....played on my PSP..now I'm here

when i was a young lad i had to walk 20 miles to work there and back, in the snow, uphill both ways. and we were so poor we couldn't afford shoes. and after working for 18 hours cleaning chimneys i had to carry two bags of coal back home to feed the family, and then do my national service. the kids of today don't know they are alive!

You had bags for the coal!! Luxury. I had to eat two bags of coal then regurgitatate them on delivery.

On a Monday, my daughter does gymnastics. So... I take her and her little brother to school for 9, collect him at 1 and her at 3, home and feed them, do homework, take her to gymnastics from 6-7. Tuesday down to school 9 -1 for him and 9-3 for her, Wednesday school 9-1 for him and 9-2 for her and bring her friend up home for a couple of hours while her Mum finishes work. Then she goes to Brownies from 5-7. Thursday 9-1 for him, 9-2 for her, collect her and her mate and take them to my mates house because she finishes work about the same time as the kids do so she just meets me at her house while I get the kids. They go to Girls Brigade on Thursdays, so it's home, feed, homework, get changed and out the door for 6-7.15. Friday him to school 9-1 and her 9-2 and then she has swimming lessons at 3.30 - 4.10 so I get someone to watch the baby while I take my little boy swimming in the big pool while she has her lesson in the trainer pool. Saturdays one of them generally has a birthday party to attend in the afternoon. I work 2-3 nights a week on top of all this, and run a house, shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry. Have a baby at home too, as well as these other 2 herbs. Needless to say, now my son is getting a little older, he will be wanting to start a social life too, so I have convinced her to quit gymnastics ( it was crap anyway) and Girls Brigade ( which was seriously over rated !) to allow him to start and go to some stuff on these nights if he wants ! They are back to school in 2 weeks time, and she will be in from 9-3 and he will still be 9-1 until october then 9-2 which will give me more time with the baby, but there are days I feel like I am never away from that school gate !! When the baby is old enough to start there, he will be out at 1, my other son will be out at 2 and she will be out at 3. Madness !!

Collecting a kid from work at 2.30am.. that is a breeze !!

Kids clubs can be a real pain as you end up scheduling your week around the kids. It was much better when my two were at their previous school as it has an excellent after school club that did gymnastics, cubs, swimming and so on as we picked them up when the club finished rather than pick them up from school and take them to the club sometime later.

Tuesday is swimming day, so that's 4:30 pm till 5:30 pm (they have back to back one on one lessons)
Thursday is gymnastics, which is 6:30 pm till 7:45 pm (I'm dreading the next group as that goes on till 9 pm)
Saturday is 9:30 am till 11 am for Stagecoach, so no lie ins for me on a Saturday

The kids want to (in no particular order) take up: The violin, Judo, Horse riding. I've resisted so far as I'm worried about them getting tired and I'd have no evenings to myself.

Biggest sacrifice I've had to make was getting a people carrier.
