Just out of hospital.....again!

Hi all,

Long time no post! Collapsed again on Monday with chronic stomach pain - this time in work. Was sick as a dog all over my desk, in the bin and all over really. My manager thought I was dying on the spot as loads of blood came up - I went as white as a sheet and passed out.

Was rushed to hospital and was released today. Have had an ultrasound and an endoscopie as well as a biopsy, which I am awaiting the reslults for.

Evidently I may have contracted something called -

Helicobacter pylori

As my stomach is in a pretty bad way, scared and enflammed but thankfully I can repair it with the right medication and time And I still await my gallstone operation. All the evidence is there, regarding my fatigue, the depression and general tiredness, complete lack of joy for life and the chronic stomach pains. They have all but ruled out cancer which is good.

As ever a pretty humbling experience, spending 4 days on a ward where some of the old chaps were clearly gravely ill and I wish them all the best. I felt like RP McMurphy last night as I was up till three watching the world go by, thinking 'im nuts, but I am clearly the most normal bloke in here'

So, what have I missed? A belated happy birthday to Shadowritten. Any others?

Cheers,

Pete.

Welcome back Pete. All sounds a bit traumatic for you. Glad you seem ok. When do you get the results? There are a few interesting General Chat threads worth plowing through that you may have missed. Sounds like you will be off work for a bit heh? Take it easy.

Hope you recover soon. You have plenty of time to watch a few discs. Why not cheer yourself up and watch all the Harry Potter films back to back. That will make you feel a lot better. LOL

I feel for you Pete. I have had an issue with my stomach a few years ago.
A trip to the hospital was in order after I started throwing blood.
I ignored all the warning signs, and it ended up with the blood episode.
I had an ulcer, thought I was going to peg it. Medication, and a serious
rethink on the amount of alcohol I consumed, sorted it.
Good luck and best wishes mate.

Cheers John. Seems that way but its all linked to the bad stomach really. Started getting stomach ache back in 2002, sleepless nights, anxiety, stress triggered depression, break up and so on - a bit like dominoes falling over if you will.

I went to the doctor way back when and no one listened. Still, hopefully get some resolution now and start to repair the damage done to the gut and start looking forward again.

Pete.

Crikey, you're not having much luck lately are you. Have you got any dates from the consultant yet?

Hope you're feeling better soon mate. Just watch those Easter eggs, chocolate is not worth the pain it'll bring on.

Nope, just waiting on biopsy results now. Mate, as for luck, I dunno, I saw people in hospital this week that puts my pain into perspective. However, sure, its been a run of bad luck but had some fun along the way and I got a sniff of heaven when I overdosed and saw something I think I might like when I get there

Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium that infects the mucus lining of the human stomach. Many peptic ulcers and some types of gastritis are caused by H. pylori infection, although most humans who are infected will never develop symptoms. This bacterium lives in the human stomach exclusively and is the only known organism that can thrive in that highly acidic environment. It is helix-shaped (hence the name helicobacter) and can literally screw itself into the stomach lining to colonize.

horrible luck developing this i'm sure you be as right as rain in no time

I was so sorry to hear this Pete. That bug is responsible for 90% of stomach ulcers yet doctors are very slow to test for this. Apparently a few weeks of antibiotics can all but get rid of this. I think the Australian who discovered this has won a Nobel Prize. A shame this wasn't done for you as it certainly sounds like an ulcer or ulcers to me.

Nice to see you back again. Not a bad thing being ill at work, at least you'll get loads of sympathy from your workmates in future!

Good question LGS.

Have had a torrid time and trying my best to get through it. Sometimes I think a lesser person would have folded but then I remind myself I did when it all got too much last year. Still struggle some days and get very low and think about calling it a day again as cant really see a future. If I can get on top of this stomach thing I can at least try and feel better physically which in turn may help my mental state.

Thanks all.

Pete.

Thanks so much for the kind words. Missed the forums whilst I was shacked up in ward 11. Figured I can live without TV, newspapers and the like but no internet is a big in my world.

As for my work mates, very decent people and some very young people in my office and they looked like this when they saw me

I've only just come across your thread Pete
I was wondering why you hadn't posted much in the camera forum over the last week. I hope you start to feel a bit better soon as I'm pretty sure you will now that it's been diagnosed.
Some words of comfort my friend. My brother was diagnosed as having that bug about 10 years ago now. He was put on medication and within a few weeks was a lot better. Now he doesn't suffer from any stomach problems at all (barring the odd dodgy curry now and again ) .

You don't want to be going there yet. Just think about it. The light up there is way to bright. You'll have to get a camera with an aperture the size of a pinhole and a shutter speed of about 1/1000000th of a second to get any decent shots and I don't think one of those is available yet. So I'd hold on a bit longer if I were you

Get well soon mate

Oh Pete, oh Pete, oh Pete... Right, 2 things I want you to do for me, you and the rest of the word.. Get well soon and write a bloody book about your life!!!! I for one would buy it! And I'm sure you could knock out a few sequels to it! Seriously Pete, think about it!

Good luck and best wishes, as always from, the Shodan Household. (aka Castle del Shodan).
