Do you value your privacy? Read this!

This is not a joke email, there are no funny pop-ups...

A website has been brought to my attention that may pose a risk. The
website is www.b4usearch.com and by clicking on 'People' and typing in
an individuals name and area it brings up their home address, phone
number, details of other members in the household, details of neighbours
in the same street and also directions to your home.

If your details can be accessed via this website,
you can have them removed. To do this send an email to
privacy@b4u.co.uk and your request should be removed within 21 days if
they are not removed within this time you can complain to the
Information Commissioner's Office by sending an email to
compliance@ico.gsi.gov.uk

(and 192.com)

Please pass this on to others you may consider it is useful to....

Indeed, that is what these companies do. You can still request they remove your information as quite often they will change it a little to get around addresses listed in the MPS lists and then sell it on.

I don't think it is. They buy the information from the government. The same is done through Companies House, who sell directors information to interested parties....hehe, is that tax on your information or the government just profiting off your information? Should be even better when they do ID cards.

If I showed that to my mum or granny they would freak, simply helping them reaffirm their belief that the Internet is the tool of the devil.

this wont be the only website to do this and tbh you would never find all the outlets for your 'private' information. just hink twice before signing up to receive 'free' goods as details like these is a massive business.

How so?

You can see the electrol roll at the local town hall, and you don't need the internet.

There not exactly forward thinking people, mixed in with some extreme Christianity and a hatred/fear for technology. Nothing rational about it.

Exclamation

Hi,

Some insider's knowledge, which will proabbly annoy the hell out of you all.

When I was in my late teens, and was looking for a part-time job to fit around college, I applied to do some telephone work for a local firm. It turned out to be a "cold calling" job for a local double-glazing firm, and I immediately rejected the interview job offer, on the principle that I loathed these companies and how they hassle customers.

Anyway, I discovered during the interview, that even when you ask for your name, address, phone number and other details to be removed from these companies lists, they do take them off. However, your details will go back on within three months, as they "update" their databases every three months, and simply go back to getting your details from the Electoral Roll again.

Hence, even if you ask for details to be removed, you'll be back on their lists again, and therefore, you'll probably end-up getting a call from the same company a few months later.

As such, you're stuffed!

Maybe, but not if you sign up to TPS here.

I and many of my friends have signed up to this and I can confirm that it works. We used to get 4 or 5 calls a week, sometimes with people selling things but often just silence.

Within a few weeks of signing up on TPS, they ALL stopped.

Yup and don't forget FPS (fax) and MPS (mail). The all work quite well although to be honest the marketing scum still find ways around MPS.

I am a bit pee'd off with that search engine from the OP.

If you hit "remove me", it asks for your phone number, mobile number and email address!!!

Yeah, of course I'm going to give you EXTRA information to put in your listing!!

Each year you will get a form sent from the Town Hall to fill and confirm your details for the Electoral Register. That form has a bit where you can tick a box if you do not want your details passed on to a third party. Tick the box and no one else gets your details.

Yes but as I understand, credit and security checks are done against the register so if you don't have your name listed it will make it more difficult to get those checks done as well.

If this has not already been mentioned, I think what worries some people – and I can understand this – is that, because the Internet is so accessible, individuals’ details can be easily sought from it by using websites like the one mentioned. Also, not many people will trudge down to the town hall to look at the Electoral Register.

I am concerned about privacy – I was initially in favour of ID cards but am not really now and especially not the proposed database – and cannot say that I particularly like this information being so readily available. However, there are advantages to having this information available, although I cannot think of any at the moment! LOL

Regards,

Carl

Concerned about privacy?

If you are really concerned about privacy then the ID card that labour wants to make compulsory should really worry you. Seems like Clarke has doomed us to a conservative government next time round.
