Watched it last night & thought, why am I watching these 3 losers puking their guts up live on tele?.

..However, I do feel slightly sorry for them, haven't a clue how you get mixed up in that sort of thing & it's just amazing that from being on it for so long, the body is rejecting normal things like water & fresh air?!?!?

Doubt I'll watch it again though, £20 says they're back on the gear inside a week...

Seen it for real, wouldn't fancy watching it on telly. Trainspotting brought back far too many unhappy memories for my liking.........

We lived (when I was a kid) in a flat vacated by a junkie, walls smeared, blood everywhere before my grandfather cleared it all up, and lived above them (unknowingly to start with!) for three years. It was a nightmarish experience.

People got/get into it by peer pressure, being silly enough to think you can dabble and get away (the intelligent, yet stupid ones), or just sink so low that it's the easiest way out of a miserable existence. I have seen people rich, poor, in the middle get hooked on the stuff and a good family friend die of it. I hate it.

Going cold turkey is a truly unimaginable experience. Heroin takes over your bodys pain receptors so that when you come off it, all your body's nerve endings literaly come back to life. Imagine, if you can, for day's, no pain barriers between you and every joint in your body grinding in their sockets. I am assured on good authority, that it's not something you want to do very often, hence if a junkie falls back then they are unlikely to be persuaded to do it again.

was really hard hitting, to be honest at first i thought on similar lines to above(DT75), my thinking was druggies, losers, scum etc , to be honest being really judgemental, with out knowing what turned them to these drugs. But watching the programme it showed a different side to them, a human side which i thought addicts didnt have,( i know its bad of me thinking like that before ,of which i am ashamed) it was really sad to see what they went through on a daily basis and the pain they were experiencing to escape the clutches of heroin. i really hope they get through and wish them all the luck and hope they dont go back on it. will be watching it again

It is virtually identicle to having the flu ... the biggest kicker is that you could stop the symptoms at any time with a fix, rather than the nastiness of the symptoms themselves.

------------------

I love it when they put out the 'herion screws you up' message and show these poor junkies falling to bits.
Most addicts are not in the situation purely because they tried the drugs, in most cases there are underlying problems that pushed the person to seek escapism.
Almost all the ill health associated with herion is because it is illegal - not herion itself.
It is the nasty crap that dealers cut the herion with that damages the body, and usually the unsurity of quality that leads to overdose - one supply comes in far less cut than the older supply and lots of addicts OD because they use the normal dossages they are used to.

Herion users can live a safe and productive life if they are given clean, safe herion - it does less damage to your body that your average persons alcohol intake .... its the brick dust, vim and other crap that gets them - along with what ever other social / pyschological problems made them susceptable to becoming addicted in the first place.
Basically our unwillingness to accept, understand and deal with the problem in a way that works because of the stigmas attached to it. As long as we carry on in denial and brushing it under the carpet, more and more people get ill and die.

They are bound to do a celebrity follow up version at a later date.
Let's face it they wouldn't be short of candidates.

Is this program just another example of how bad and how desperate program makers are becoming in this country?

Agreed. Our friend died of H cut with strychnine. It is commonly used in small doses to cut with Heroin, this time, as you say it was badly cut. He died instantly.

Sorry to hear that.

One of my good friends battled herion addiction for years and is doing well at the moment. He has moved away from Bristol and started a new life but his tales were an amazing, if harrowing listen.

When he was in rehab, he shared a room with a Doctor, a fireman and a teacher who were all reasonable people, simply addicted to the drug.

Pete.
