I think I've got a good idea for a website...

the only trouble is I've got no means to set the damn thing up! I mean what can you do when you have what you think is a good website idea but you've got no money to set it up, it's really frustrating! I suppose I ought to get the domain name registered anyway (already checked and it's not taken, unbelievably!). Anyone got any tips? Cheap software that I could start things off with?

there was a useful thread here:
What's a good HTML editor? (Freeware, preferably)

domain regstration ridiculously cheap for .co.uk's from my experience.... about £11 for 2 years with the likes of uk2.net including free webdiversion and email diversion, or extra for hosting. You can host the page for free with the likes of lycos/tripos, yahoo/geocities, your ISP etc

You need to describe the high level requirements of the site. Is it simple static pages? Do you require login, registration, money transfers, data stored (large/ small), who is it aimed at? UK, worldwide?

It is tough to launch. Intellectual property on the net is impossible to protect. So when you launch it needs to be good. Otherwise someone will just nick the idea and do a more professional job of it.

Just checked on uk2.net and it seems the domain name is actually registered after all, I could have sworn I checked a week or two ago and it said it was available (didn't check on uk2.net though). Oh well, looks like someone has had the same idea as me already but hasn't got round to doing anything about it...

Any variations on the name available - say with a hyphen .

I wanted a couple of domains with the keywords in them but they had been snapped up ages ago so I settled for keyword-uk.co.uk and they work just as well, getting me to the top of MSN within a couple of weeks.
