Who's worse: timeshare, double glazing or SouthernElectric

Before deciding which high pressure sales tactic you dislike most, please read the email I sent to SouthernElectric customer services tonight:

After your last salesman's foot in the door approach failed, a manager came out today to harass me into buying my gas and electricity from you. The first one tried to get me to sign a form as a check that he had talked to me but neglected to tell me it was the form to change supplier. He was quite aggrieved when I pointed this out and showed him the door.

I have researched this carefully and it will cost me more to buy my electricity from you, but your salesmen cannot comprehend this and are extremely overbearing.

The manager told me today that I was being lied to on internet websites as they had been "bought" by rival companies, this is positively slanderous. I took his scale of charges to check against what we pay and he left, promising to return later. I did the calculations and yes you are more expensive...

He returned and I had to explain 4 or 5 times that you were more expensive before he releuctantly left, saying as a passing shot that I was the first person he'd ever come across that told him you were more expensive than my current supplier. I then went to YOUR website and put in the figures and got a polite message saying that unfortunately you couldn't supply my electricity more cheaply than my current supplier.

Please don't send another representative,

These guys have got me very annoyed

I'm amazed you kept so calm TBH.

One of the perks of living in the middle of nowhere, no trick-or-treaters or solicitors!

**** broadband though!

Games, I was not calm. I was extremely and massively peased off. Fortunately I have a low amp fuse wired into my brain, which I have trained to cut out if I get too cross, otherwise I'd be posting this from prison

Next one up the drive will be less fortunate

Sorry Regmarch, none of them come close to the mobile phone sellers who we've had calling about half a dozen times a night this past week. Even had one after midnight!

What part of I don't want a new mobile do they not understand? Proably a good job they don't come door to door though, or I'd probably show them what to do with their phone.

Some woman knocked on the door trying to make us change electricy suppliers. She kept saying "we will save you £150 on your bill". mum just said "how can you save us £150 per bill when our bill never even reches £150?" The woman suddenly went silent so mum just shut the door. :D

Say "not interested" and shut the door.
Don't say "sorry" or "thank you".

If its telesales call they usually ask for The "homeowner". You can reply indignantly that there are no "homos" here and indulge yourself with a bit of amusing timewasting...

I'll just get them they are in the garden.

I can't find my keys I'll have to bang on the window ( simulate window banging and off telephone shouting).

They are coming in now.

Oh no! They've fallen over.

Its ok they're up they're limping but they're okay.

Oh my god ! They've impaled themselves on the sundial.

Arrghhh the blood the blood !

I feel faint I can't stand the sight of blood I'm going to hurl ( simulate barfing noises).

Sorry who was it you wanted to talk to again ?

The homeowner!!!?

How dare you what are you implying we are a respectable family there are none of those homownersexuals round here.

continue until bored...

Alternatively hang up and again.
Don't apologise , don't say thank you , don't say goodbye and never ever say sorry.

Southern Electric, well their marketing arm of the firm, were on Watchdog a few weeks back for stuff just like this. They insisted it wouldn't happen again...

I used to get this regularly, since I registered my home number and mobile with the telephone preference service (TPS) this has stopped completely.

Double Glazing is easy

"Do you want double glazing or conservatory?"

"Do you want flat glass processing software?"

I chased a load of door to door ones away once with a few brouchures we had knocked up for Glassex

Sorry to drag this up again,

But I was asked to post any reply,

I have had to heavily edit it to get to the actual text, and not identify what company it came from

" am sorry for any upset or inconvenience caused by the visit from some of our sales advisers. We do have a strict code of conduct which is designed to ensure all our sales advisers offer an honest and highly professional service in the form of advice. They certainly should not try to get you to sign a contract saying it was just to confirm their visit. It is also disappointing to hear that the sales manager stated that the websites giving consumers price comparisons between companies are providing incorrect information as many of these are independently run. He should have taken your word that we would not be cheaper and left the property promptly and politely.

I have forwarded your comments onto our Domestic Sales Manager who will speak with the sales manager concerned to ensure there is no recurrence. I have also arranged to remove your details from our marketing list so you will not be contacted again by any of our sales advisers.

Should you require any further assistance or information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely...."

i remember when our area was targeted for a while by electric/gas supplier salespeople.......it was when a new law had been introduced a couple years ago for something or other....cant remember exactly what it was now.......

anyhow, one lot came around while i was in, knocked on the door, i answered and they said they were coming around to tell us about this new law regarding something or other, blah blah, then quiet fluidly slipped in 'and of course now we'll be supplying the gas/electric you'll find it a lot cheaper and more efficient, because we need to be sure everyone has been told, you just need to tick a few boxes and sign your name so the system gets updated.......'............at which point i decided to mention the glaringly obvious, how come the name on your uniform isnt the name of our supplier? to which he smoothly replied, 'ahh, its the new regulation, our company is the one handling telling people in this area, your supplier is probably handling the other half of the borough.......so dont worry, just sign and tick and you'll be ok......'......to which i replied, well i'm not the houseowner so i cant tick on their behalf.......'he said, oh its ok, you can....'.......at that point i shut the door in his face.........

3 days later, they tried it on again, except mum opened the door.....mum doesnt swear normally.....but boy did she let rip on these guys when they gave her an even more cock and bull story.....heh......

since then they never been around........we dont get any other door to door here....and when telesales call, dad just sits there commentating on a football match or whatever sports on sky....heh.....winds them up no end, some still even try and talk to him!...lol
