Computer Memory Question

Ive just got some new memory 2x 512 DDR PC3200 and i allready have 1x 512 DDR PC2100 and 2x 256 DDR PC2700 fitted. I can fit 3 max. Is it best to just fit the PC3200 on its own or shell i put in one of the other sticks aswell? If add another stick do i add the PC2700 or PC2100???
Thanks Ian.

You can mix memory speeds if you must but it's not really recommend for stability, in addition all of the memory (including your new PC3200) will only run as fast as the slowest memory in the PC.

So if you were to put the 2x PC3200 and 1xPC2700 in it would all only run at PC2700 speed

IIRC the best performance will be to keep just the PC3200 stick in place. adding any of the other will cause the higher speed RAM to be accessed at the lower speed rate.

May be interested in the PC2700 sticks if you want to sell them

It depends what speed you are running your processer too, it's generally recommended to run the chip & memory at the same speed.

If the motherboard runs at 2700 then you can add the 2700 RAM without any change in performance. if the motherboard is 3200 but the processor is 2700, then still no change in performace. If they are both 3200, then stick with the 3200 RAM only.

Hope that helps.

Mixing ram speeds is not recommended due to instability problems. You may also find that with two 3200 sticks it's a moot point anyway. Many motherboards only support two slots of PC3200 at any one time.

Flog the pc2700.
