Stag Do Destination

Morning All - I know this has probably been done before but nothing wrong with a refresh & people may have travelled recently.

I'm getting married in September 2006, I need your help thinking of a decent stag do destination.
I don't want to go somewhere that is full of stag do's (Prague, Dublin & unfortunately now Tallinn etc...) but a
good fun city/town/resort we can make our own for a few days.

It must be within Europe, not part of the UK & none of the following (I've already been there - only major cities listed).

Riga
Tallinn
Dublin
Madrid
Barcelona
Seville
Lisbon
Paris
Cannes
Reims
Strasbourg
Bruges
Amsterdam
Berlin
Dusseldorf
Frankfurt
Rome
Milan
Prague
Budapest
Copenhagen
Athens

My own shortlist consists of the following but any info you have on them would also be great...

St.Petersburg
Split
Dubrovnik
Vilnius
Ljubijana

thanks

Don't go to Paris, it's a stinking hole. Certainly the most over-rated capital city in Europe.

I like Dutch towns for a night out myself.....and not necessarily for the titty-bars and dope-cafes. Good food and decent booze but I guess I'm at an age (and married) where my priorities for a good night out have changed.

My stag do was a day out at Ascot races. Was great until we all headed out in the evening. We were staying in Windsor where, unknown to us, all the pubs shut at 11pm. Not a late license or nightclub to be found. We trudged back to the hotel to find the bar had shut there too.

Was the most sober stag I'd ever been on......and it was mine.

I'd go for Prague. Cheap quality beer, stunning women, great adult clubs, and the place is great as well.

I have lived there and have to disagree with you Adam, but as it's already in the list - I won't extol its virtues....

Have you thought of Nice in the French Riviera? It's very pleasant temperature-wise and has some wicked venues - nice mix of great food, some interesting French bars and the odd ex-pat venue which are great fun!

Try out Ma Nolan's - had some great nights out there!

August 2005

In August I went to Barcelona for my old managers stag do and had a fantastic time, bars/clubs did not close early (and not too pricy), plenty to do in terms of beach/places to visit if you want to (not that we did), subway system was great and easy to get around city at any hour and relatively cheap, i think we paid 15 euros for a 4 day pass.

We stayed in the Hotel Abbot which was only a short cab ride from the Airport, i think it was about £15. We went as a group of 13 and paid £50 a night plus £80 for flights from Heathrow.

It's definitely worth a look, Las Ramblas is great at night and all the clubs/bars down at the Harbour are fantastic.

Good Luck.

I duly second Prague, the women are absolutely stunning. The pubs and clubs are very cheap. It's also a nice place to visit during the day if you're not to hung-over.

Wwe went there on my stag do in 2001, a few of the mated and me have been back 3 times since. I just can't get bored of the place. Every time we go there we find a new set of bars etc to visit. If you are going in the hotter months, the English Gardens are a great drinking venue.

Flights : We've always used Easyjet. Booked well in advance, and not payed more than £59 return.

Accomodation: We stayed at the Hotel Amba. It's right opposite the central station, so it's easy to get anywhere you want in the city, via train or tram.
http://www.hotel-amba.de/e/eindex.html It's nothing special, but you're only there to sleep!! We had a group of around 13 each time, so we managed a deal of about £20 per night PP.

Never been, but my Finnish friend can recommend Helsinki.

Mine was in Torquay. Sounds naff, but was loads of fun.

I got married in October 2005 and me and the guys went to Valencia for 4 nights in September.

One word - Awesome.

It allegedly the party capital of Spain for Spaniards. There were no signs of tourism, very few people spoke English.

The Barrio del Carmen in the old town doesn't kick off until after midnight and keeps going until the sun comes up. Bar, clubs and women galore!! A sight for sore eyes is an understatement.

A really good place, plus it has a great beach and based on when your wedding is the weather will still be red hot (we went middle of September and during the day it was mid 90's). Due to the fact that tourism hasn't yet been exploited there yet it wasn't expensive either, cheap in fact.

www.virtualtourist.com is quite a good site for checking out cities you are thinking of visiting.

There was of course the ubiquitous Irish bar which was amusing due to the fact no one spoke English!!

To a previous post regarding Paris. I have lived there for a period of six months. I would agree it is a stinking hole. I also lived in Aix en Provence in the South. This was a fantastic little town but I would not recommend for a stag weekend. I only mention it so I don't look like a Frenchy hater. It is just Paris that stinks!

I can second Barcelona and if you can lay off the booze for just a few hours check out the architecture- its stunning.
Its a vibrant city full olf young people, good food and a decent beach. I also like the surrounding area.
Finally if you are football nut Nou camp stadium is a must see.
You can take a special tourist bus for the sights
