Does Paypal Condones Piracy
I today received a final notice from paypal that a dispute over an ebay auction
( here) in which I was sent an illegal copy, they have sided with the vendor, saying that the goods were as described (doesn't matter they are pirate copies).
It’s great isn’t it?

I would get in touch with the people that deal with distributing copied material.

Exactly. It's no use ebay/paypal hiding behind their "definition of the auctions rules". If it was a terrestial auction, no matter what their rules were, if an item is a forgery then it's illegal to sell it!
I would also point this out to them, as people are getting sick of this on Ebay. It's just another scam they turn a blind eye too.........

I bought something off a website through Paypal in November last year, the stuff never arrived so I tried to get my money back through Paypal who refused to refund me because the seller provided a tracking number (which didn't work because it came from abroad by post).
I wrote to them telling them that unless they had a proof of delivery with my signature, they couldn't tell me that the stuff had arrived and if they still refused to refund me I would contact the Financial Services Authority (they are the regulators) because they're obviously trying to get out of it.
They've re-opened the case now...
So maybe it will change their mind to remind them that by not refunding you they are condoning the actions of the seller and that because it's against the law to sell copies you will have no other choice but to report them.

Sounds good to me. It might also be worth getting in touch with the FSA anyway to see what they say. The more pressure that's brought to bear on Ebay (Paypal) to clean up it's act, the better for all of us.

i very rarely use ebay but sounds like it is getting to the stage where decent folk need to avoid it...leave the full time dodgy dealers to shaft each other. I also would definitely contact the piracy folk (details on every DVD...unlesss you bought the dvd from ebay).

I find it strange that PayPal refused your claim as eBay appears to have terminated the users account 'No Longer registered'.

Take the matter up with your local Trading Standards Department.

Thanks for your feedback,
I have already reported the seller to FACT and replied to paypal reitterating the fact the goods being sold are illegal.
I think paypal believe most people will not bother for the sake of a fiver and put it down to experience (as I probably will).
The amount of people who leave good feedback for items that are blatantly forgeries (not just av material but also clothing and footware) is quite astounding.

Thing is, as long as it works, most people aren't bothered. It saves them a fortune in many cases. I'm not in any way condoning forgery, but perhaps with slightly sharper pricing, the pirates, who would have to go even lower, might feel the pinch.
We're certainly not winning the war on piracy by insisting it's "in no way down to inflated prices" and just relying on an overstretched Police force and customs.
However, that doesn't excuse a 'legitimate' business like EBay allowing so many fraudsters and blatant piracy merchants get away with it!
What kills me, is when (as happened to me) they threaten you for leaving bad feedback on their dodgy goods!

Yes
Like Ebay they dont care as long as there pockets get deeper.
2006 Is going to be the year I fight back. This year Iam on a crusade against every organisation I deal with that tries to shaft me. I urge everyone to try and do the same. We get good advice here but usually we dont follow it through, well this year Iam going to make a big effort with this.
