Question Garmin StreetPilot i3, anyone?

Bit of a curveball for you techie types.

I've tried everything to install the USB drivers for this little gem. The correct procedure using the CD-ROM just doesn't work, nor does any workaround (and I'm reasonably technically/IT competent).

Anyone think of why the USB drivers just won't install? The folder for Garmin appears in C:\ and all the files appear to be there. I can point the Add Hardware wizard at these files, but after searching only WINDOWS\System32\Drivers, it just says the device cannot be installed correctly. Look in Device Manager, and it recognises the device, but says the system is the process of uninstalling the drivers at the next restart!

Do I have faulty i3? Do any of you own one and know what I'm doing wrong?

Cheers!

really tempted by this unit. especially at 169 quid. anyone got some feedback/reviews ?

I have heard that it even competes with the high price TomTom as it is handily so small. don't know whether everyone finds that mind !

I know it's not much use to the resolution, but I previously owned the Garmin Street Pilot III and Street Pilot Colour - notoriously difficult software Gave them up for this very reason (and lack of auto-route calculation and voice prompts).

Since buying Copilot for my Smartphone I've never looked back. Some might think that the small display factor of a phone is too much of a restriction - rubbish. The display modes are fantastic. I've looked at various mates' setups from dedicated in-dash systems through to tom-tom type devices and mine rocks.

Copilot smartphone, running on an Orange C500 phone. Brilliant. Under £200 including the tiny (about the size of a box of swan vestas) bluetooth antenna. The ultimate in portability and no worries about anyone nicking your satnav 'cos the phone's always in your pocket when you're not in the car!

Same here looks like you can also download points of interest and speed camera alerts which would come in handy.

Cant seem to find many reviews on them tho.... if i could afford it i would buy a tom tom but these do seem todo the job.
