Exclamation If you see a car without lights at night - beware !

My mate has told me of a disturbing new "fad" that is happening in our bigger cities. Apparently, kids in "gangs" are playing a dangerous new game, where new kids take part in an "initiation ceremony". This involves being driven around a city centre at night, in a car with no lights. The kid being initiated has some sort of weapon (could be a catapault, crossbow, or even a gun), and they have to shoot that weapon at the first car that "flashes" them.

I really hope that this is not true, but for my own safety's sake I will not be alerting drivers to the fact that they have a lighting defect. I'll leave it to the police

Let's be careful out there !

A return to National Service is long overdue. If these kids want to use weapons, let's see how cocky they are on the front line in Iraq ...

Heard about this years ago but from over in America. In that case it was still a gang initiation thing. Who ever flashed first the new member had to catch up to them and shoot the driver dead.

Don't know if it was urban myth or not.

Assuming it is an urban myth, I wonder how long it will be before some gang of chav types decides it would be a jolly good wheeze to put it into practice.

I flash the idiots - if ANY of them tried anytning at all they would come off worse. I would not be afraid to ram them off the road if I had to!

In the fog toady - loads of brain dead no light morons - I actually drove in front of one and flashed them to get their attention (it was a small car and I went two foot into their lane)

Another urban myth that does the rounds is the 'friendly terrorist' in the supermarket/mall/shopping centre/market/bazaar (depending on your country).
In return for a good deed (usually short of cash at the checkout or a returned wallet) he warns you not to come to this place on a certain date

A mate of mine fell for this one a few weeks ago and almost went to the police to warn them!
They would have had to take it seriously too.

One of my mates used to drive along at dead of night in countryside, then turn off his lights and start singing, "we're on the road to nowhere, ha.....".....it was quite funny at the time....well, if you like Talking Heads that is....

I can remember proceeding............er..........enthusiastically down a dark country lane in a courtesy car once - flicked the switch to put main beam on and all the lights went out - nearly shat meself!!

Sorry if this doesn't really fit with the thread but i'm a bit groggy as i appear to have passed out whilst talking to a very pretty girl who bought me a drink down the pub last night - i woke up this morning in a strange place, in a bath of ice with a terrible ache in my lower back and i can feel some sort of injury there - anyone know what that's about...................??

I think this is the wrong forum for this, rather than posting here (knowledgable though we are) I'd go to the NHSdirect website and ask their advice about what to do if you think you've lost a kidney...

Nice one Beobloke

I can tell you a true story though, and i know its not an urban myth, as it happened to me a few months ago.

Was on train the other day, and a man of middle eastern origin arrived in, with a large bag, with some wires sticking out of it. He sat on the seat on the other aisle from me. When the inspector came round, he found out he didnt have money, and feeling sorry for him, i got the ticket.

He thanked me, and as he left he said to me "the greatest gift i can give you for your unselfish act is this. Please, please stay out of Glasgow!!"

"Why", i asked, "is it going to be bombed?"

"No, it's just a full of chavs", he said

The only problem in "seeing how cocky they are" is that we already know the answer - that they'd be filling their boots, assuming the foetal position and screaming for their mother (or social worker). Fine, they might learn their lesson, but what about the professional soldiers? The ones who actually want to be there and volunteered for it? Is it fair to them that the guy covering their ass is a little piece of filth who cares about nothing except saving his own skin?

National Service for these little ******s sounds nice in practise, but let's be honest - it's just a case of us trying to find an en-masse solution to the ever-growing problem of the idiots infesting our society.

Just start fining the parents, and if they claim they don't have the money (which they will)? Then their benefits get cut. Can't feed the family this week? Too f'in bad - should've thought about that when you didn't care enough about your kids whereabouts to know that little "'ee's a good kid, really!" Johnny was out shoving fireworks up a cat's rear end.

Technically speaking, he was incorrect. Glasgow doesn't have chavs. Glasgow has neds, specifically the "Glesca Ned" - the elite SS Death's Head Division of Chavdom, motto: "None scummier, None Lower. Oh and geez 50 pence for ma bus fare ya bass or you're gettin' chibbed, by ra way."

Had that recently in the daughter's school newsletter (having been sent to the school by somone in a very senior position at the LEA)

Then it turned up in the monthly safety briefing at work last week .

Is the entire world (AV Forums members excluded) brain dead?

Well, "urban myth" or not, I don't think I'll be flashing any cars without lights - they'll have to take their chances !

As for the cinema seats, that's not a problem, I don't go to the cinema - their sound system is not as good as mine
