Plastering Courses

Anyone know of any plastering course in the west midlands, perhaps 3 to 5 days long?

My partner has decided she wants one for her birthday and I think it'll be a good thing to try also so if anyone has any ideas or advice then fire away!!!

Thanks

Deanym,do you think your partner could have a word with mine, and while she's at it could she raise the subject of electrics/plumbing/gardening/decorating/car washing courses?

I don't think it's cheap either...the crash courses in similar things like plumbing etc are £000's aren't they?

The money is not so much the issue it's the fact we want to finish the renovation of our home, and can't get a decent plasterer for love or money! My partner is brilliant at anything she turns her hand to so I'm confident she'll do a great job but a wait of two years isn't on!!!!

Cheers for the advice though chaps.

Deanym, why not try papering over the cieling with lining paper, a couple of layers will cover any largish cracks and will suffice as a temporary fix until you get hold of a plasterer.

hmmm, we've just removed unsightly paper and reboarded ourselves, just need the job done properly, plastered, painted.

I enjoyed reading that - when I was a student the closest we got was replacing some tiles in our student accomodation using christmas cake icing, we got our full deposit back, but we did recieive a phone call a short while later asking what grout we'd used!!!

Once we've learned the basics, it will happen exactly as you describe above - just need to know the few starters then on our way!!!

Chris, thanks for the link, its exactly what we're looking for, the only snag being its location, I was hoping to get one a lot closer to Worcs, but if your mate gives positive feedback, we'd be willing to give it a go.

Thanks!

Plastering course completed today.

Fabulous. Exactly what I needed finish the renovations that are underway and should make installation of my AV kit and second hifi froom a breeze. Once I start I'll post pictures of the progress (and if anybody is impressed, I may allow my services to be hired!!!)

I recommend it to anyone.

I am a plasterer by trade & the first thing i would recommend to you would be to buy a quality set of tools to start with.....that means no £3 Mickey Mouse trowels from Homebase if you want to make a decent job! You can buy trowels with a bevelled edge ,already broken in for skimming but it will still take you a couple of weeks use to develope a good cutting edge... look to pay between £30-40 for a decent one. This may seem expensive but it will pay dividends in the finished job. Also,if you plan on skimming ceilings? make life easier for yourself by scaffolding the room out first & not attempting it from a set of steps, you could do yourself a serious injury!. I will keep an eye on this thread,so if you need any advice, feel free to ask!

Dan
