As a spin off of the BRITAIN SUCKS thread I would like ask how a single guy with two kids is meant to live an meaningful life after all the bills have been paid for. Below are an example of a guy (not me) who has a job with a net pay of £20,000;

£20,000-£15,000 after NI and Income Tax @ 25%

£800 Poll tax after 25% rebate

£800 Gas/Electric fuel bills

£2600 Rent/Mortgage

£1560 Food (no frills)

£100 TV Licence

£240 Water

£600 Internet/Telephone

£1000 Petrol

£180 Road Tax

£300 Car insurance

£1000 Depressiation on car

£4000 CSA based on 2 kids

£500 Shoes/Cloths

Total £13680 leaves £1320 or £25 a week to live on.

So with just £25 a week to live on just how exactly are you meant to take your kids out at the weekend, take them on holiday, buy furniture/Washing machines/Cookers/Fridge Feezers, fix the car, pay a pension, buy dvds or HC equipment or just wine and dine a new partner?

It seems that if your a single bloke with two kids, life in Britain really does Suck!

it's just one example of an imaginery low income individual. Not sure what your point is really as it's not based on you........and if you don't like things you really should vote (as per your comment in otherthread), then you can complain.

Haven't caught up on the other thread yet but I bet the "answer" to this guy's situation is arriving on his doormat everyday from MBNA, CapitalOne, MINT, Barclaycard, etc., etc.

Thats £20 a week more, but £45 probably isn't that much but certainly liveable if all your other bills are paid and you don't look after the kids that much (I assume thats why its 4k).

It looks like the major drain is the CSA.

It would seem that his major expenditure is to provide for the two children that he willingly brought into the world. Unfortunately they are an expensive commodity and as they say "A child is for life and not just for Christmas" or something like that.

I'm not sure that his finances would be much different overall in any other country with a comparable standard of living to ours.

Hi,

Whilst I sympathise with anyone on a low-income, regardless of their circumstances, some of the following may help:

- Don't have a phoneline, just a PAYG mobile phone for essential phone calls.
- Use the internet for free at local libraries instead.
- Use public transport if at all possible, and that should save you all the petrol, insurance and other assorted costs associated with owning a car or other motor vehicle.
- Get condoms free-of-charge from your doctor or local family planning clinic.
- Don't buy brand-name clothing/footwear, unless it's relatively cheap! Your kinds don't need them! As long as clothing looks nice, and is relatively hard-wearing, that's all that should matter. They don't need to be walking advertisements, as well, for companies like Nike, Rockport, Kappa, Reebok, Coke, etc, etc, etc.
