Reports of explosion at Liverpool Street Station

breaking news at the moment and no details apart from a loud bang. Fingers crossed that it's nothing bad.

Sounds like a engineering problem ( blown transformer).
Better safe than sorry though.

Looks worse than equipment failure, from the BBC just now:
Quote:
Emergency services have been called to London's Liverpool Street Underground station after reports of an explosion.
The incident has caused major disruption to the entire network with stations across the capital closed.

British Transport Police said there were "walking wounded" but one person's life was reported to be "at risk".

London Fire Brigade said four crews were at the scene and more were on their way. A power failure could be the cause, Transport for London said.

A British Transport Police spokesman said that emergency services were dealing with reports of an explosion at 0849 BST on the Metropolitan Line between Liverpool Street and Aldgate.

One passenger, who had left the Tube at Fenchurch Street Station, and walked to Aldgate East, told BBC Five Live that he saw injured people.

"As I walked through the bus station I could see people lying on the ground, black, as if they'd been covered in smoke. There were about three or four people on the floor being treated."

A substation failure could still cause this. Remember that Met line trains were first introduced, the same year my Dad was born (1953) and the cicle line trains aren't much younger.

I just heard on Talk Sport that apparently a Sky producer witnessed a bus roof being blown off, but a lot of it is speculation so far.

On ITV news mate, it's all over the media at the moment. I work for a newspaper so I tend to hear of things slightly in advance of the general public. Always have to be careful about whats right and not right though, wouldn't want to cause panic.

The bus has exploded at Russell Square which is apparently quite close to Euston Station

From what I understand (watching BBC) one bomb has gone off on a bus, but there has been bombs reported on three buses.

Assuming this is terrorism, the question is, is this G8 related or Al Qaeda related ?

Yes seems like its the real deal. Bombs on buses and tube trains.
Victoria line train I was on went through King's Cross just as they were anouncing the evacuation.

Looks like I'm stuck in the centre of London for a while then.

Got evacuated from Euston earlier - tried to make my way past Kings Cross but it was all cordened off, masses of police, fire crews ambulance, helicopters the lot. Absolute chaos.
The scarey thing is it took me 30 mins to get out of Euston Station - from platform level, up 2 flights of non-working escalators, to outside the station. I'd hate tto think what a fire or a bomb could do in that place at that time of the morning.

Security was tightened for the G8 summit but was this at the cost of reducing security in the major cities?

It looks like AL Queda. It is very similiar to their pattern.

The summary so far: 5 explotions - 2 in the subway, 3 in the buses. There are several killed and at least 90 injured.

this is not the MO for the IRA or the Real IRA, the speculation must point to middle east terrorism. I had thought that the bus bomb could have been a bomber transporting a device, however, it looks like there have been other bus bombs.
