So I’ve just bought my first 3D TV and I’m trying to weigh up the best way to watch some 3D movies as well as the normal HD of course.

Downloading - Fine for HD thought there isn’t much of a selection (around half that of the DVD section) and 3D films seem to be in dual screen format which to me just isn’t good enough

Netflix - Good for steaming HD but no 3D

Lovefilm - Can steam HD and have 3D posted to me, seems the best option so far? But Ive read their HD isnt even 720 and can be cropped?

Would of thought buying or renting Blu Rays would be the best option for both HD and 3D

this, i dont think there is a 3d streaming service, lovefilm/blockbuster blus are the only way to rent them that i can think of

Blu-Ray 3d movies are around £20-30 a go to buy, renting from blockbuster? perhaps...

blockbuster do the posting as well as lovefilm but i'd probably do something like that, no real alternative other than buying, if you want 3d

Speaking of Netflix, I have a question:

I signed up almost a month ago and gave Netflix my paypal details when I committed to the month's free trial, but I don't want to join them when the time starts - will they give me the option to join or will they just take the payment? How do I leave Netflix?

I'm only asking because I've changed my mind about them and want to stick with Lovefilm, esp. now they've resolved their little dispute with Universal and offer reasonable streaming online as well.

They'll take it automatically unless you cancel in time, theres a cancel membership button in your account section of their website

I know that the OP was looking for a streaming service but for 3d content why not sign up to lovefilms basic sub of 2 discs a month, one at a time for £3.99 a month..

lovefilm/tescodvdrental etc.

£10 a month for 2 disks at a time. including Blu-rays etc. if you are canny you can watch 20 films a month.

from what i saw of netflix its horribly compressed and looks like youtube more than dvd.

log into the web account and select close account. its really easy. i took the free trial but it was crappy selection and quality.

There aren't that many 3D films anyway.

Tends to be either children's films or horror films.

Even Avatar, famous for being one of the first big 3D movies, hasn't been released as a 3D BluRay yet (it was available as a freebie with Panasonic TVs\Players, but never officially).

I had Lovefilm for about 7 months. Think the service and the value is pretty good. But what let it down for me was that you have little choice over what you will see and when.

Sure you can set up a list and assign basic priorities but Lovefilm still decide what they are going to send you from that list. I found that it would take several months before I got the new releases on my list - even if those were the only ones set at High Priority.

There is streaming but I found the choice quite limited on Lovefim and even on Netflix it wasn't that great.

I've gone back to Blockbusters using Tesco clubcard points.

£16 of Tesco clubcard vouchers gets you 12 rentals which can be used on DVDs, BDs or Console Games. Found it particular good when my son was playing a lot of XBox and finishing a game in a few days - 1 rental (£1.33 of ClubCard vouchers) would get him a game for a week, easily enough time to finish it.

I use Lovefilm, had about 70 films and 10 ps3 games over the past year.

Like you I've just got a 3D tv (Olympic ceremony was amazing in 3D) and I've just added loads of films to my Lovefilm list, most of them seem to be kids films and horrors though.

I have seen a few already, Hugo and Bolt are both very good.

I had bb for posting films, and was rarely staggered by the range or quantity of The films on offer, also unless they hide the 3d films they don't hold that many 3d content!
