OK. So... I will be the first to ask.

How did it get through security?
What if it had been something else hidden?

Would it have been "great stuff" then?

Why would it be a problem? If you were checking people (presumably the people involved in the opening ceremony were considered trustworthy anyway or were already checked out) someone with a small camera poking through their clothing, wouldn't be a problem as ... it's a camera...

It got through security because last time I checked cameras are perfectly legal to possess and use. If it was something else it should and most likely would have been picked up by the rather robust security checks conducted at olympic venues.

Recording and broadcasting are different things though.

Exactly, you'd think billion pound multi nationals could stand a few minutes of crappy online shaky footage but nooooooo.

It was the fact he described it as "hidden" that I picked up on, not that it was a camera. Of course lots of people have cameras at the Olympics, but not secreted about their body.

Fair enough, looking at it from a security point of view though it's not relevant whether it's in a bag or your pants when you come in. A camera is fine to take through.

I'd have expected all the participants to have signed/agreed to a set of conditions on participation, such as secrecy etc. I bet there would have been a clause about not taking any videos of photos, even for personal and non-publishing considerations.

The agreement says you can take photos, but that you cannot make them public until after the games have finished

You can take photos but cannot publish them on social media networks, or share them until after the Games, in particular for security reasons.
