Anyone had lobster before?

I'd never tried it before. So was in a Thai restaurant in London today and decided to try something new. Normally I go for the obvious, usual choices.

It seemed nice enough, just a lot of hassles to crack and sort.

So glad that I've tried it, but doubt I'll rush to choose it again.

Any lovers of Lobster?

Never had whole lobster that you have to crack yourself but I have dressed lobster a few times. Like you, I think it's nice enough but not so great to justify the price.

Cheers,

Nigel

I've had Lobster Thermidor once and loved it. Very pricey though.

One of my favourite foods, love it, plus it's a bit of a workout also!

Yep, had lobster quite a few times either catching our own whilst diving, or from Billingsgate fish market, or in restaurants.

Can be a struggle to crack all the bits but the best meat (to me) is in the tail and so when served chopped down the middle is easy to get. Next best is claws which are usually cracked open to make it fairly easy to get at the meat. I don't bother with the legs as its not worth the effort.

I'm not adverse to a nice bit of lobster...Really like the meat...I prefer mine simple though, catch it, beach your boat, kill it (knife at the back of the head at the cross and slice through the head for a instant kill, none of this hot water rubbish), slice through the middle, add garlic and herbs and put on the bbq Best way imo...

I absolutley love lobster. Just a knob of butter and touch of garlic and I am in heaven

Pricey and beyond my budget nowadays, but you can't really go wrong with a cold water lobster caught in Arctic waters ... they taste divine.

Seems a marmite food amongst people that I've asked. I'm tempted to try it again next time I'm at a seaside town. Where it's sourced locally and prepared in a classic style.

Was funny when the "tools" got placed on the table in preparation. I did think to myself "here we go".

Definitely going to try other foods when I go out for a meal now.

I look a little bit like a lobster today, after a beer to many yesterday and falling asleep in the sun.

Love my seafood!

Had lobster (the whole cracking it open yourself thing) last summer in Majorca.

Really nice and just a bit of fun cracking it all open

I've gone off most seafood over the last few years, including lobster.

I used to feel quite privileged eating lobster, crab, oysters, scallops and caviar...then it dawned on me one day that I didn't actually like the texture of what I was eating, and what it looks like in it's natural form !

I still like Prawns and Scampi though.

Lovely like this - it doesn't need loads doing to it. I prefer crab though - singaporean black pepper crab for choice

I live next to a port, and there's seafood restaurants everywhere. There are vans/stalls at the port selling lobster, crab, scallops and whatever else. Much cheapness! That said, I can't be bothered with lobster. Too much arsing about.

I'm off to Cuba in 3 days. Will be having lobster every day for 2 weeks. Delicious! Carribean Spiny Lobsters don't have claws, so no hassle eating them at all. Just cut in half and flame grilled.

Its a dish. Big crab, something to smack it with, eaten with your hands with a cold beer. Spicy from the pepper and juicy with some sauce

Interesting.
I can't stand seafood, but my missus had a lobster in Florida and loved it
Whereas she had one in Mexico and hated it
Someone (I forget who) explained that the colder the sea, the better when it comes to lobsters.
Same with Mussels apparently.
Not that I'd know from personal experience.

I eat a ton of seafood and absolutely love it. I could quite easily drop meat and just live off seafood.

Rather depends on the Lobster- Homarus gammarus (European Lobster) and Homarus americanus (go on- guess) do seem to be better in cold climate (Hence Scottish for European and Maine for American being prized). In the case of the Caribbean Lobster, I suspect cooling it down won't do it any good at all though.

Mmmmm..... I love lobster so much, but I am cautious about eating lobster after I read what happened about Robbie Williams getting food poisoning from eating lobster. At the very least, I am worried something like this: Food Poisoning will happen to me again, and at the very worse, something far, far worse!
