Survey - please help us by completing this quick survey

Completing this survey will help us to improve AVForums by giving us some basic community demographics, identifying which areas of the site are popular and which areas we need to improve. The survey is anonymous (we don't have reports on who has given which answers) and once the overall stats are collated, the data will be deleted.
Please click here to take the survey.

(Note: we are grateful for and have acted on the feedback received on the initial layout of this survey. Apologies to the 25 or so people who took the survey initially, but since we have changed the survey, we have had to reset the stats. We'd be very grateful if you would take the time to take it again.)

Thanks for the feedback but unless you are specific about what happened, I can't help you. It's rather like phoning your local garage and asking them to diagnose your non-starting car with just the information 'it won't go'.

Didn't let me save it either. Or at least, says it didn't. Click finish at the bottom and it just takes you back to the top saying you quit, your answers haven't been saved...

Just completed the survey.

When I clicked once nothing happened, but I clicked "Finish" again and it took me back to this Thread.

Might have been useful to have some free flow comments for general feedback - though these can be harder to collate the reponces.

I think there is work to be done optimizing the avf app (especially for tablets). :-)

Edit... never mind, safer not to ask probably!

Was going to fill it in but didn't because of the marketing questions.

All done, clicked finish and worked first time.

I joined in 2003 when AVForums looked like this AV Forums. Discussing audio/visual home consumer electronics.

P.S. Would have been nice to of had a field where there was a personal comment page on your overall thoughts. Mine would have been that I can't believe how far AVForums has come in the last ten years. Great work on building such a successful forum.

People should exercise caution before entering personal details. I can 100% guarantee you that we have absolutely no interest in knowing specifically who has what income or who shops where. It's all about percentages. What percentage of our membership do this, have that etc.
Being 'net users just like you, we understand the importance of privacy and have always put the privacy of our members at the top of our priorities.

I got the exact same response as Arcam_boy!

Tried clicking "Finish" again, and the same problem. I'm afraid to say, it looks like this survey isn't working for a substantial amount of people, which means any results you get aren't going to be indicative of the users, and thus valueless.

Sorry Stuart, but I had a quick look at the questions are they are exactly the same sort of thing that the dodgy collection agencies use (usually with a promise of winning a nice prize) - their real aim is to collect personal data to sell onto other companies (like supermarkets, insurance, media providers, telephone companies, holiday companies).

I'm afraid that your survey looks so similar, I'm suspicious of the real intent - I can't imagine why a forum would innocently need to collect this information.

Cheers,

Nigel

Not filled it in as I dont see how knowing where I shop, income, household status etc has anything to do with improving AVF but I do see how it would improve targeted advertising

Yes - because sites like this don't cost anything to run.

I suspect they want to target their market better to attract new sponsors with specific information about the audience. I don't have any issue with that. If I click on more ads because they're more relevant to me, then I suppose the site generates more money.

I filled it in.

Hi,

Just tried filling it in again, and included newspapers and mags I read, but the same problems occur. Sorry, but in my view - and seeing as this is now the second time the survey has been listed in General Chat to be filled in - I'd say that there's something wrong with it, as it's not working for everyone.

If it isn't working for everyone, then I reiterate the fact that the results you get will be skewed, and will be of no use to whomever the results will be used by.

I also share some of the views, that some of the information you want, like where I shop, my household income, etc, does sound like you want this info so you can use it to target advertising at me.

I'm all for helping AVF become a better website, and for having adverts on the site itself, to help defer running costs. I'm not so keen on disclosing more personalised info that really does sound like it's intended to be used for more ulterior motives.

Apologies if that sounds harsh and unfair, for that isn't my intention.
