any mechanics on board ?

hi .. i have a toyota celica (x reg) its juddering, and is driving me barmy, when the engine is started and is cold its not there, it pulls off great, very nippy, no problems, but soon as the engine is up to temp the juddering kicks in and its awfull, the acceleration is just a looooong juddery nightmare.

ive done a service, ie .. new plugs, oil, oil filter, new K&N panel air filter, bought some MAF cleaner and cleaned the MAF, there was no kind of build up on the old plugs, there no signs of leaks anywhere inc underneath.

im just at a loss as what to do or try next, ive been told 3 things it could so far (clutch on its last legs, head gasket, and exhaust cat), but they are expensive guess's to get wrong,, help

thankyou

how about getting its diagnostic codes read ? , to be honest anyone on here will most probably be guessing without driving it , maybe someone would be kind enough to help you out if you give us a rough idea of your location

Sounds reasonable.

Otherwise, it sounds like a weak mixture.

Is this a non standard filter, that you've just fitted?

I can't see any of the 3 reasons you've mentioned being the cause.
It's most likely a sensor, so as advised, you need to get a diagnostic.

I have a starlet, had problems with the idle control valve - I'm no mechanic but my car was juddering and the ICV sorted it out, only about £20

Could be a vacum hose on the inlet manifold, very cheap to fix if it's that.

Experienced something similar on my Focus, when accelerating hard the car would judder - it was either the air filter or the fuel filter.... cant remember which...

seems might be something else on yours though...

Exact same issues as you mention on a previous car i owned, was the EGR valve. Cost me and arm and a leg to get replaced though.
