Not sure I'll buy in one of the events, am tempted but probably not wise. |
I've been playing quite a few of the low stakes tournies recently (with 5/10/20k guaranteed prize pools). Tend to go for the knockout games so you get a bit of your money back as you progress. I agree, though, there is very little actual skill in the low stakes, you really have to wait for your premium hand and even then hope for the best when you [will undoubtedly] shove.
Higher the entry, the less aggressive / loose the players are and the better the game. If I don't see an all in on every round of betting in the low stakes, I'm v surprised.
Obviously, luck plays it's part, but you can at least have some control over the game, which is why I prob won't bother with satellites tbh.
Last night I got busted out of 4 consecutive tournies. Each time I was well ahead all the way through until the river busted me out - that was annoying!
So, then I entered a 25$ NL Turbo event with around 850+ runners. After a bit of luck (I was short stacked with A4 suited and shoved an under the gun raise, who had pocket queens, board came down 5-8-8-8-8, that guy must have been livid....) I ended up on the final table and cashed in 9th for 10x the entry, so that made up for the bad beats earlier.
