For red dog the challenge is only on their menu which you view via PDF. You don't get any prizes though just your picture taken and put up on the wall of flame. Do they may not qualify but they have some awesome food and massive portions!

Orange Rooms Southampton has a challenge burger which I completed a few weeks ago in less than ten minutes. Unlike many eating challenges the burger really is a thing of beauty!
– The Challenge burger – 8 oz beef and 8oz chilli beef patty, topped with chicken strippers, mozzarella, cowboy bbq beans, onion rings, nachos, a portion of potato fries, and a portion of sweet potato fries.
I did this yesterday, took me about 30 minutes, didn't do any preparation for it and it was my first challenge.

Has anyone tried the Mcdonalds hamburger challenge?

Apparently 3 people have a working day (9-5) to take down 100 hamburgers (so 33ish each).
There is another one of 10 hamburgers in one sitting (no time limit as such, but you can't sit there for 3 days). I had 5 hamburgers this morning in about 5 mins, felt stuffed straight after and then after about 2 mins i felt good again, and pretty sure i could have done another 5, but i didn't.

TBH I can't see either of those being very difficult . Or is that just me being fat ?!

i'm a slow eater. timed competetion is useless to me, unless it is spaghetti bolognese!

my wife eats food faster than me, unless it is spaghetti bolognese!

some of those challenges seem impossible, just looking at the bbc video, heart attack! 9lb of food, that's outrageous, even for a fat bar steward.

or a 2 & 1/2 lb rump steak with all the trimmings, eat it all for and you don't have to pay the £29.99

so in effect, eat it all and you get it for free, saving £30 well that's just rubbish.... you can take your wife to a half decent restaurant for £40 without drinks, and much better service, maybe factor in a bottle of wine and push the price up to £60.....

the fact is, food should be enjoyable, not a competition. don't forget, there are plenty of buffet diners around 'eat as much as you want for £x' whether it is chinese, indian, asian, malaysian..... the catch is, if you leave food on your plate then there is a surcharge.

eat what you like, don't overfill your plate. and you usually have about 90 minutes per sitting which is ample enough, and who can complain at lunchtime prices of about £5-6.99 on a weekday?

you see some gluttonous people there but that's their problem not ours.... we leave feeling quite satisfied and there is no pressure to eat everything served to you, because you serve yourself. we are not greedy, usually 2 plates of main course and then perhaps 1 dessert, and i think we are rather conservative that we don't pile the plates high with food that we probably could not eat.

these type of restaurant are far better value than any 'eat it all for free' deals.

we much prefer the quality service in a proper restaurant than an eat all you want or a buffet restaurant. and if we are honest, the better value comes from a good local restaurant than an eat all you want at an extortionate price that only a minority could clear.

Not always - the local chinese buffet to me is amazing and they don't normally mind if you leave stuff - in the dishes where you get meat and then a load of fruit and veg added in, i never touch the veg etc, just pick the meat out and leave the rest.

i think if you ordered a whole duck and pancakes for 6 and left it all, there might be a charge, but they are normally reasonable about it.

there is a place in Cardiff called Sizzle and Grill that offers a whole Man v Food menu including a 2 foot long hot dog and a 96oz steak. The place is mad, they also offer up exotic meats like rattlesnake and crocodile.

I see the menu says you can double up for £3.10 - I'd ask for that on the Devastator & take the whole family & let them graze all night!

I did forget to put a smiley after it, but, if it's not clear on the menu, I think it's worth a shot. Just remember to order & eat first, haggle later

that's bad value for money. i'd want a side plate of fried mushrooms and onion rings to with that

so, if you eat it all, it costs nothing?

that is one huge burger.... for £40 you could have a nice meal 2 in a half decent restaurant that serves far better food than a burger and chips.

i'd be far happier paying £65 for an excellent restaurant meal with wine for 2 people and put a tip on top for the great service rather than try to defeat that burger and chips and leave half of it.

to be fair to you, it's a birthday treat and something different, but value for money? not in a million years.

not sure how old your stepson is, but if he is 16 or older i'd have got a stripper and some nice breasts in his face for that money!

I would not recommend this place. The food and service were atrocious.

20 minutes seated until we got our drinks (a bucket of beers!!). Mains took 2 hours (was actually served after last orders had passed at the bar) and they were standing around waiting for us to finish so they could have us out by 11.15. By that time I had passed hungry and just wanted to leave.

Had the hot wing challenge as a starter and I have new found respect for people who can do that. It was probably 10 times hotter than a vindaloo, utterly crippling. Good thing the service was so bad as one of my friends spent the next 45 minutes in the toilet after the hot wings.

They were full of apologies, gave us a 20% discount off the bill for their acknowledged bad service (but still put a 12.5% service charge on the bill). Food was horrible when it turned up, we all left most of it. Me and the wife spent the next day on the Tom Fritter, 1/10.

My experience of red dog saloon mirrors yours. The hot wing challenge is incredible. One guy I went with managed two, I barley managed a tiny little bite before my lips started burning.

Really?! I have been twice now and the food and service was excellent. I had the devastator the 1st time round and then ribs and pulled pork combo the second time. Couldn't fault either and would happily go back.

How about these guys:

Media- Burgers at Blacks

I personally watched 4 of my friends attack one of these, even for 4 people it was a struggle - a quote from one of my friends the day after "For the first time in my life I don't want a McDonalds"
