Ok, so the wait is over and Movember is finally here. All the team have had a clean shave, even our General Chat Moderator IronGiant says goodbye to his 30 year old Beard! - but more on that below!

So what is Movember?

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men's faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face and then for the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

We put the word out earlier this month for volunteers for the AVForums Team and I am glad to say that we have the following staff and members all donating their faces to grow that MO...

AVForums Founder Stuart Wright

This is Stuart all clean shaven and ready to go for the month. Look out for video updates and progress photos from the 'Boss' during the month.
If you want to donate to Stuart click on his profile here: Movember United Kingdom - Home

AVForums Editorial Manager Phil Hinton

I went for the arty pose in the 2.40:1 ratio for my clean shaven look. Certainly makes me look slimmer than I am. I have never in my life grown a Mo and really don't know what to expect. There will be video updates and photos from me as the month progresses, plus, I will be doing some videos at a hardware launch later in the month, so you will get that full Mo coverage!
You can donate to me here: Movember United Kingdom - Home

AVForums Assistant Editorial Manager Steve Withers

20111101111956.jpg

Steve is also growing his first ever Mo this year as he has avoided facial hair, what with being challenged up top, but he will do anything for charity. Again Steve will be featuring in video and photo updates as the month drags on and you can donate to him here: Movember United Kingdom - Home

AVForums Reviewer & News reporter Mark Hodgkinson

2011110112108.jpg

We had Mark down to look the most like a serial killer with a MO, however, going by that Photo I don't think he needs one to accomplish that look!
Mark is dreading this months growing pains as the end result, he states, will be Ginger! That might just be enough to tip the ex-chef into getting his knifes out! He will also be appearing in video and photo updates here and you can donate to him here: Movember United Kingdom - Home

AVForums Speaker & Subwoofer reviewer Russell Williams

2011110112755.jpg

In another photo which looks like it came courtesy of a Police line-up, sub bass mad Russell obviously didn't quite get the memo about his photo being clean shaven. I have been assured he is now smooth and hair free and ready to start his Mo adventure. Again we will track Russells progress throughout the month with Videos and Photos. Lets hope his Mo doesn't affect the room acoustics too much. You can donate to Russell here: Movember United Kingdom - Home

Forums Moderator David White (dwhite)

2011110135336.jpg

David joins the team to add even more Mo tastic coverage to the AVForums cause. He has yet to tell us what his challenge of the month will be, so we wait with baited breath ( we have funny feeling it might be games themed, and Italian). You can donate to David here: Movember United Kingdom - Home

Forums Member Adam Parrish (AngelEyes)

Adam is most likely to look like a boy band member, or pron star when his Mo finally gets here. He has a passion for good hi-fi and home cinema and assures us he will be working from home the entire month and getting take out delivered. Good luck Adam! We will of course be featuring his progress right here for you to see and you can donate to his efforts here: Movember United Kingdom - Home

Well well well, the one people in General Chat have been waiting for...

AVForums Moderator Hogarth Hughes AKA IronGiant

2011110140339.jpg

In order to take part in this years Movember, Mr IG had to lose his beard. No big deal? Well lets just say that it's been there for the last 30 years! So this is a big deal and it has been captured in full, with some requested styles along the way. As the beard removal was such a big deal IG let the girls decorate his beard in different styles as it was being removed. Let's just say that it sounds like Mrs IG is proud as punch that he is taking this step (going by the number of photos I have been sent!)

IronGiants motovation was that his Dad got nagged into seeing his doctor by his partners Mum, got diagnosed, treated and is well past his 5-year follow up period. Only goes to show what a bit of awareness, screening and nagging can do... but the other side of the coin and the reason he got off his ass to do Movember this year was that his next door neighbour (whom his youngest children had known all their lives) was sadly taken last year, leaving a widow, with no immediate family around. We all have our reasons for this challenge, but IG is certainly making the biggest personal life change by removing the hair that been on his face for three decades...

So, how is it going...

2011110141837.jpg

Hmm, looks like those youngsters have a good taste in colours, it's almost Tartan! That beard is certainly getting thinner, it's coming off and in no time we have.... George Michael!!!

2011110142036.jpg

Ha ha ha :) What a great sport and what a look, is this going to be IG's aim for the 30th of this month? Not sure if that look suits him?

Now, I could just post the other pictures of the requested styles, but hey this is for charity and Mr IronGiant has made the biggest sacrifice of the team so far. We have those other photos and we will post them, but it is only right that it costs a donation of £5 to his Movember total for the next Photo.

So go on, get yourself over to Movember United Kingdom - Home and get the donations in for the big reveal of the next two photos and styles of Mo! It will be worth it!

Edit - 11am Movember 1st. We have had donations to IG and the team, so time for the next instalment of the beard going...

The Porn Star!

There is more, so keep the donations coming in...please!

Update 8pm Movember the 1st. - Donations received and the last IG photos are ready to be seen.

So here is the last Mo style and some people say it suits a Moderator, but I am confused... what does Charlie Chaplin have to do with Moderating a forum? Confused...

And finally, it is all gone!

Well done IronGiant for being a good sport with these photos of the beard removal. Now get growing that MO! and please keep the donations coming in...

AVForums Member Jean-Paul de Jong (dejongj)

2011110143350.jpg

Jean-Paul is doing things slightly differently for Movember this year. As well as growing his Mo and asking for your donations to him and the AVForums team, he is also setting a challenge for the month, where he will donate cash for your Photos of people with Mo's in real life. I will let him explain this in more detail and the main thread for this challenge will be in the Photography section of the forums.

dejongj said:
In addition to asking you to donate, we would like you to participate in a photography challenge that will start on 1st November and run until 30th November.

I will pledge to pay £1.10 for each unique photo of a moustache wearing person during Movember with an upper limit of 500 photos thus £550. The rules will be;

1. An AVForums member has to take the photo, or have permission to use the photo.
2. The photo will have to be taken during Movember 2011 and verifiable via the EXIF information.
3. All photos will have to be posted in a thread that will be dedicated to this in the Photo Sharing section.
4. By posting the photo, you also grant me permission to display the photo on my official Movember page. Or ideally you do that for me, I want lots on there

This is a great opportunity to exercise you photo skills, getting into some street togging (photography), and make me donate some money to a very worthwhile charity.

To learn more about this charity please visit my page at Movember United Kingdom - Home and learn about all the good things that will be done with your (and my) money. And whilst you are there click through to see the rest of the AVForums team

If you are interested in getting more involved than just joining in the fun of taking pictures of people with Mo's then why not;
• Very important: spread the word, learn about prostate cancer, tell your mates to check their balls, or if you are so inclined check them for them
• If you like you could join me in the pledge, just a penny per photo would add up to a useful £5 donation if we reach the 500 photos.

Your Mo Bro,
Jean-Paul de Jong

The thread for adding your photos for this challenge can be found here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/phot...er-photo-challenge-now-live.html#post15716991

And can I say a big thank you to Jean-Paul for his kind pledging for this challenge!!

And that is the team for this years Movember. We will have lots of updates, some silly videos and lots more over the month, including challenges to get the team to do silly things for donations.

Our target for Team AVForums is a big £2000, will you help us get there? Spread the word!

I've a strong feeling we are going to smash TeamAVForums target, great work guys and my money is on its way

The next instalment of IronGiants Beard going is now posted above. Thanks to all those who have donated so far! We have more of IG, so keep the donations coming...please :)

Tell you what, Hogarth (Iron Giant) looks 10 years younger.

Some brilliant pictures here guys, keep up the great work. Loving the coloured stash on IG.

We need another £5 donation to unveil the last Mo style from IG's beard removal and let's just say it suits the Moderator role perfectly according to some users!

Get the donation in and I'll post the last of the removal Pics!

Just wait for the next photo

Not sure, I'm still in shock :)

Just updated my avatar, in case anybody was wondering about Phil's cryptic comments about Italian and gaming. Gonna try for a big bushy Mario. Although it may well fall short!!

Also I neglected to mention to the wife what I was planning, and she's just reminded me its her birthday on the 16th - 'We wont be able to go anywhere for my Birthday!!' Well we'll see about that Mrs, I'm sure I could put the costume back on and get loads of sponsorship, without her being embarrassed:devil::devil:

Well the team has just made another £20 in donations, so many thanks to everyone who has supported us so far, we are well under way. :smashin:

Oh, yes.

That means the next and last IG beard removal images need to be posted. Well stand by...

His penultimate 'Charlie Chaplin' picture resulted in me spitting out my beer......absolutely brilliant

Indeed, I'd donate a tenner just to see Gok Wan lifting his moobs.:D

Russell
